Regulators, my video converter, and some finer wire and solder came in today. Waiting on my filter caps and wavebird controller(s).

I didn't realize that the pin spacing on the regs was so non-standard :(

So much for my proto-board idea.

What I had done in the past to deal with the non standard spacing of the pth regs on protoboard was to put header pins in the back corner pins and gnd pin (since those fit with a standard spacing) then put 2 header pins next to the Vin and Vout pins and connected the PTH through hole to the header pins with solder like this:

You can also (so long as you have the space) just put them wherever it's conveinent on the Wii motherboard. That's especially handy for the 1 and 1.15v lines that I only use for the Wii.

I retained the USB for mounting purposes, but I'm really worried I cut too close on top. Obviously this is extremely rough, I have yet to even de-burr it, but I won't bother sanding if I've already goofed up. How's it look?

Edit: Aurelio assuaged my fears. Sanding time.

Started sanding and opted to lop off the USB portion as well. Did a rough sanding with a dremel, and once it no longer "looked like a pack of hamsters chew the edges off (thanks @Shank)," I went at it with some 400 grit. Reg time.

It was a little lot rough around the edges, but it looks much better now. Are there any shorts?

Just be sure to check each voltage input to ground and maybe each other.

No, you should check the voltage spots on the Wii motherboard with a multimeter before hooking up regulators or anything else. This way, you don't accidentally fry your board :D

Continuity should be fine. The 1.15v line will be around 30 ohms, and the 1v line also might trigger continuity because of it's low resistance.

Parted stuff out for my regs:

Did a little test layout:

And as an added bonus, I also got a driver board for an LCD I've had laying around today, so I built a stand for that. After cleaning up, I'm pretty happy with my new setup.

The goal with the trailing component leads on the protoboard I made is to use them as the legs if the PTH08080s. I'm going to take off the existing legs tomorrow and hopefully get nice clean holes with my solder-sucker that I can bring the leads through. We'll see how that goes.
