Worklog [2025 Contest Entry] Playstation 3 Portable

I have a question about the 12V main power to the console. I see when the on/off switch turns on the 5V tto ps3 standby and the LCD.
At this point is the PS3 motherboard also receiving 12V? I know the PS3 PSU doesn't supply 12V until the power button on PS3 is pressed.

That's right, when I turn on the main switch, the voltage regulator emits the 5V needed to power the standby mode and the screen, then the DC DC regulator module starts sending a subsequent 12V to the PS3 motherboard.

Ah i see. So the 12V is supplied to motherboard before the ps3 power button is pressed? There is no damage to motherboard?

I did hundreds of tests on both the first boards and the one that was cut, and there were no problems at all. The only difference is that the fan is activated before the board is turned on because its 12v comes directly from the power supply, but it turns very slowly because it is modified. After I enter the menu and activate Hen, I use WebMan to increase the fan speed.

Thanks for the info. Then there is no need for a separate switch or relay to active the 12V from battery to motherboard after turning on the PS3.

O que aconteceu com o projeto?
It takes time to do a full writeup of a project, especially as this isn't most people's job. I'm sure it'll be out soon, but that soon is relative to many different aspects.
Also, please try to keep the forum in English. If you don't know the language, there are translators that you can use that do a really good job, I'd recommend DeepL.

Exactly, besides a project like this taking time, we still face adversities, but soon I will bring updates, I will put IPS screen and HDMI controller since this is composite video, I believe it will be excellent

Hey everyone, it's been a while since I posted an update on this topic, but now I'm here to finish it off. I had some problems. I wanted to get a good final result, and I wasn't satisfied with the screen on the AV1. However, I looked for 9-inch IPS screens with HDMI controllers, but I couldn't find any. So I went looking for a controller that was compatible with this screen, even though it was TFT. It wasn't easy. I spent a lot of money and I almost couldn't find a controller compatible with this resolution. But in the end, it worked. However, I had problems with the PS3's HDMI output. The screen wouldn't accept it, and the image was always cut in half. The controller that was compatible didn't have an amplifier, and the PS3's sound switches to HDMI when switched, so I had these problems...

I thought there was no solution until I remembered that the PS3 outputs YPbPr images, which are very close to HDMI, and on these screens, you can barely tell the difference. I just needed to test if the resolution would work, because if it did, I would I solved both screen and audio problems, and it worked very well, it worked perfectly, now I'm here literally finishing my topic!

I'll leave some images and a video at the end, I don't know why the video wasn't so good, I think it was the cell phone camera, but it's satisfactory in person.

Follow the video and I hope you enjoyed my project as much as I enjoyed making it

Good contest to all and until next time bye bye.

What an amazing and wild project this turned out to be! I love everything about this dude! I seriously hope you win this contest because you deserve it!

I always follow your work captured from your YouTube channel and I'm impressed by the perfection, your portable PS3 is fantastic!! I hope you win, it would be very deserved. Congratulations!!

What incredible work! I followed the entire step-by-step process of creating the first portable PS3. What dedication and care! It was already amazing to see it working, and now with this increased resolution screen, it's even more incredible. I have a Lenovo Legion Go (a very powerful laptop that even runs the PS3 with some difficulty), but there's nothing better than having a real PS3 in the palm of your hand. Congratulations, what you've created is unique and excellent!

Seriously impressive! Congrats on the finished project. Has some old school portablizing energy to it

Never thought I'd see the day.

So the list of Portablising Shit Stitches Was Wrong About is now:
  • The WiiU
  • The PS4
  • The Xbox360
  • The PS3
Where there's a soldering iron, there's a way I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Impressive build! How did you decide in the end about the power to the console?
Another question is on the video output.. are you able to use component to your controller? I am trying to to find a LCD + controller with component (YPbPr) support but had no luck.
Just wondering on the details of the batteries configuration, playing time, and conversion to 12V. Congrats on being the first to portabilize a PS3 super slim :D

Sorry I didn't answer before, I had a small problem with my cell phone, but I'll answer you now. About the power supply, it uses 9 21700 5000mAh batteries. It's a bit heavy. I don't recommend playing lying down with it, otherwise it will be the end of you. LOL. Jokes aside, it's not heavy, you can play with it easily, but your hand will get tired, so I play with it on my lap or on the table. Because the PS3 is not an ideal console for portability, it consumes a lot and gets very hot. I did it for the adventure, but I don't recommend anyone to do it. Despite everything, it lasts 2 hours on batteries. It was lasting 2 hours and 30 minutes, but that was just the console. It didn't have a screen, amplifier, etc. Another thing is that it has a YPbPr to HDMI converter. It was the best way I could find, and it's working perfectly. I hope I helped.
