So this project has no worklog as it was completely off the cuff and went from concept to completion in a day and a half.

The PS2 Ultra Slim

Features:

-Almost half the width of a stock PS2 slim as it nixes the DVD drive and one of the USB ports.
-Added mounting for an internal micro SD card card adapter for SD loading.
-Improved cooling over stock with an additional intake and a guided exhaust.
-Re-purposes the lid switch to become the power/reset switch.
-Designed to not need supports to print the main case.

A very basic how to build:

1) Requires a PS2 79k motherboard.
2) Carefully trim off 2nd USB port so the motherboard is square, being careful to not cut the 5v reg for the USB port. Sand that edge so there are no shorts. Run a wire from the 2nd controller port 8.5v to the input leg of the 5v USB regulator to restore USB power.
3) Cut both traces coming off the DVD lid switch and wire reset to one side of the switch and GND to the other side, this is now the power switch.
4) (Optional) Trim down an SD to micro SD adapter so that it sits flush in the adapter mount and wire it up for SD loading.

A quick update:

I'm currently working on improvements to the design by adding features such as a switch to enable/disable the SD card slot so to allow the 2nd memory card port to be functional again, and to have an optional shell that incorporates a rotatable PS2 logo.

I'm also renaming the project from PS2 Super Slim to PS2 Ultra Slim due to parts of the internet referring to the OEM 9k PS2 units as the Superslim (Even though they are the same size as regular slims dumb.gif)

Thanks to Tito from Macho Nacho Productions for showcasing and providing an in-depth build guide of the PS2 Ultra Slim.
I've worked with Tito over the past few months to make changes to the build to improve overall usability and aesthetics.

Updated 3D print files:
Top Half (One with and one without PS logo mount).
3MF of Top Half for multi-colour FDM printing.
Bottom Half with side switch mounting and updated SD mounting bracket.
Updated Stand.

If using an FDM printer:
*The bottom shell should be printed without supports*
*The top shell can be printed without supports but it is recommended to support the memory card slot overhangs and the power button hole if you aren't performing a multi-colour print*

BOM:
PS2 79000 model mainboard.
Micro SD Card (Samsung recommended)
Micro SD to SD adapter -
Slide Switch - https://mou.sr/3Il19Py, https://mou.sr/3vFjpvi, https://mou.sr/3GCPiLw or anything similar, comes down to aesthetic choice.
Resistor anywhere from 50ohm to 100ohm.
PS logo from fat PS2 (Optional).
Reuse screws from PS2 slim donor.

Software:
Download the latest BDM4 version of OPL here for best results with SD loading. HERE

I'm just wondering if there's any micro sd card limitations I should be aware of before I build it. A maxmimum size, specific brands to avoid or aim for, that kind of thing.

But i have a question for you is a 9k that much bigger than a 79k ?
Because a 79k console is impossible to get in Germany :(

A 9 series ps2 has a completely different motherboard layout with the inclusion of the power brick internally. It unfortunately can’t be cut square like the 79 series. If you look for different version codes 79001 or 79002 or even 79003 those are different regions and might be easier to obtain.

New here. Long time modder, surprised I've never heard of this place. My only 79k PS2 slim I have is a limited edition white Singstar one....so needless to say I wont be using that. I just bought a "for parts" on eBay, and plan on buying a couple more. This mod is so freaking cool I can't wait to complete it.

Make sure it's a Samsung and as far as I'm aware there's no size limitation as you can now use exFat.
