I need a step up converter for my screen which uses a 12V backlight for my Wii. The screen is 10 inches and the power usage according to the driver board is 12V and more than an amp. I've read that simple ones from amazon or ebay are bad to use and I only need 12v for the screen and the Wii will run from PTH8080WAH. I can't use a larger battery pack since im using this CMB and I don't want to buy another one.

Mind posting the model of the screen and the driver of the LCD? Possibly able to mod it or run it without modification off a lower voltage

I had the screen from an old portable Tv and only needed a driver board. Will upload high res pics from the chips if you want.
Ebay page

Edit: Added pictures of chips
Edit 2: just noticed that the Ebay pic does not match the one I got.

There's a good chance that the LCD doesn't run off 12V natively. For car screens, they usually have a step down regulator that converts the 12V from the cigarette port down to a voltage tolerable for the screen. There might be a regulator of some sort, but I'd wait for someone more competent to reply prior to doing something.

Im pretty sure that the screen doesn't use 12v but when I got it, it was fully labeled which was nice and on the backlight it said 12V. I've run the board at 10.2V while testing with a Wii and a battery the wii shut off but the screen remained on and it wasn't dimmer. Maybe theres a step up chip on there to keep 12v all the time.

the component labeled "1117" might look like a linear regulator.

It is and it outputs 3.3V so the screen might run on it but the problem is still the backlight
Edit: Found a battery that had 7.8v in it and it worked straight at the jack and still looked good. Need to find smth that outputs 5v for testing

Would you be able to solder the power to the output of the regulator and ground to ground? I'm getting my screen today and wondering if something like that would work.

I've seen that display board be able to take 5v at the jack and likely there's a chance the backlight circuit would need 5v somewhere so that would be a safe choice

Thanks, thought it wasn't possible because of that.
