First off,I do hope i'm posting this in the right place.

So, I'm planning on building the PS2 Ultra Slim developed by Wesk.
This would be my first "big" build since working on nothing other than Game Boys.

And as I was planning everything out, and looking up the parts and pieces, I thought it would be neat to replace the network port on the board with one that has a LED activity light on it.

Something like this:

I've not been able to find out if the SCPH-79001 motherboard has a spot, or even the capability for this or not. The connection might be easy enough, not sure, but I've not been able to figure out if there's a spot for the network activity or not. I've looked at the PS2 79000 Compendium on the forum, and tried looking up all I could, but I'm not sure if there is one or not.

I'm assuming there probably isn't a way to do this, but it doesn't hurt to ask, since I've already google'd it and found nothing.

Any information or help would be appreciated, thanks! :)

Edit: (My information is wrong here, the 4 pins at the back of the port are actually the pins for the 2 leds in the connector, not extra ground connections.)

interesting question. I have never thought about that before.

I think it would work though, because the only difference I can see between the port you have there, and the original, is the 4 extra ground ports at the back (which could be cut off).

as you can see in the images, the original only has 2 ground pins (in red) that should line up with the new port. In orange I have marked where the missing pins are on the original port. as for the other pins, there are 8 data pins on both of these in the same pattern. The 2 plastic clips look the same but its impossible to tell if the spacing is exactly the same.

I don't see why it wouldn't work, so it could be worth a try if its not too expensive. You should post your findings if you do it though.

Sounds promising at least! I'll definitely order the port and give it a try.
Once I get all the parts in and start modding, I will definitely update this post with my findings to see if it works or not.
Since those 4 pins are all ground, I could always just wire them out and ground them somewhere else to get them working if just cutting them off doesn't work.

I'm very sorry, but I was wrong. I tested a port similar to the AliExpress one, that I had on an old computer and the 4 pins at the back are actually for the leds, not extra grounds.

this is made more clear with these photos:

they seem to just be normal 3 volt leds.

however I don't know if this means that your idea wont work, because maybe (extra emphasis on MAYBE) you can make one of the data lines flow through the led before going to the port, but I have no idea if this works, and I didn't have time to test it (and It would also not be easy to do).

As I'm still a beginner to all of this and still learning as I go, I may not proceed with the idea, more or less just wanted to know how possible it was. So I may end up leaving the one in place that's already there, or just replace it with a newer one without the LEDs. Once I get more experienced, I might try my hand at following up on this, who knows. :)

Thank you for the help and insight, Bill!
