Finished trimming my wii. Was not as clean as my og wii. Any tips for practicing to solder to u10
tbh i think the hardest part for me was working with the magnet wire, it’s a small gauge so i practiced by soldering to vias left on the part of the wii mobo that you don’t use, just practice getting good connections to vias and then you will be able to knock out solid joints on small spots

Gnd to 1v: 104.5 ohms

1v to 1.15v: 121.1 ohms

1v to 1.8v: 124.1 ohms

did you sand down your edges really well? also did you remove the components on the edge of your trim? they can cause unnecessary amounts of resistance

650 degrees Fahrenheit. Also screwed up my first wii because i was being stupid and decided i was skilled enough to just solder to the u10 via without practice and then this happened will update after i trim my backup wii later.
I'd bump that to 700F

It shouldn't effect performance. Enabling vga just makes it available if you want to wire it up later.

The Wii will still run, and composite video will work the same with the patch installed

I was looking for some tips for my iron and wondered if you guys had any suggestions to which would be best to have for this build. I posted a link to the one i got earlier in this thread. Its the pinecil one

The Pinecil is pretty much the best iron for hobby usage. The next step up is a Hakko FX-888D, which is a sizeable price jump and only really recommended if you're going to use the iron for many future projects.

I would say that running the wires is probably easier than soldering the ribbon connector, but both of those options are a cakewalk compared to some of the tougher Wii soldering. I'd say the ribbon cable is worth it for the cleanest internals, otherwise just wires will work fine.
Do i need to place captain tape anywhere if i use the wires? I dont believe i should, but i just want to be 100% sure
