i got a DS lite with a dead top screen for free, and decided to do something with it.
my goal is to make it just as functional as a normal DS (while only having one screen), and hopefully make it better. and also do it for cheap

firstly, i got rid of the top screen and replaced it with a resistor i stole from a broken wiimote battery pack; and i relocated one speaker to the former stylus slot. that gave me this (for free so far):

then i set my sights on the tv out mod. except i didn't have any 470ohm resistors on hand... there was still an easy mod i could do with what i had on hand, though. by installing the tv out firmware, it let me add a button to swap the screens.

that's what i have so far. it's already pretty decent just for playing ds/gba games.. but there's a lot more i want to add. my next addition'll be a sleep mode switch, and eventually i'll:
- relocate the other speaker somewhere
- relocate the wifi antenna somewhere
- relocate the mic
- get a flashcart that doesnt suck
- add the other two buttons for the tv mod (picture-in-picture, and the opacity settings
- add the actual tv mod
- replace the charging port with usb-c
- custom shell
- ips screen? (are there even any ips screens for the ds lite?)

i ripped the touch screen ribbon.. luckily, i had a spare bottom screen (with dead pixels) so i swapped the digitizers to fix it. and then i swapped the bezels on them (since the replacement was from a pink console), which apparently destroyed both screens. so now i need two new digitizers.. i also had to remove the screen-swap button since i didn't give myself any other way to remove the front of the case, so i'll have to resolder that..
at least there's a working sleep mode switch now?
