Hey everyone! After finishing my first wii portable build and making a youtube vid about it, I thought I’d try to build something of my own design.
My goal with this project is to build a fully custom (mostly wireless) Wii portable around the Omega trim while learning how to design most of the major subsystems myself.

Main features:
Hollywood 1 Omega trim
Custom all-in-one motherboard
5" display (maybe 7")
Lipo battery
Switch 1 (or 2) joysticks, buttons, and potentially speakers

For the motherboard, I want to design a custom power management system, regulator board, audio amp, and other supporting circuitry, taking a lot of inspiration from projects like the Psu-plus and Rvl-pms. I'm also planning on making a flex pcb that interfaces with the Omega (kind of like Xenii's Xii-flex) so I can get rid of as many wires as possible.
The boards I plan on using as-is are the Gc + 2, Melonhd, and maybe the Rvl-dd

Stretch goals:
Removable Wiimote "Joy-cons" (either from a trimmed Wiimote or a custom Wiimote Mini)
Bluetooth
Dock with Hdmi out and Usb-c
Wi-Fi

The removable controllers are definitely my biggest stretch goal. I think they'd be super cool, but they'd also add a lot of extra complexity with charging, power management, and mechanical design, so I'm not treating them as a requirement

As of now I've gone through the RVK Compendium and a bunch of other omega worklogs to get a good idea of the trim and what's involved. I'm hoping to have a working Omega in the next couple weeks

I know this is a pretty ambitious second project, but I figured I'd just jump in and see how much I can learn. Maybe I finish everything, maybe I don't, but either way I think it'll be a fun project and a good excuse to learn PCB design :D
