I've always preferred the clamshell design for handheld gaming systems due to their easy pocketability and natural protection for the screen/button/thumbsticks. Although it's ambitious I wanted to also have a wii portable that could reasonably make use of some kind of small portable wii remote. I have had this idea for a while where a clamshell wii had a small wii remote (around the size of a joycon) that can slide in and out for storage like a stylus on a DS. I started working on this idea a few weeks ago so I have a partially functional proof of concept.

Essentials:
-Clamshell design wii portable with wii remote functionality
-Mini wii remote that can be stored inside the portable (the idea behind this is like a stylus from a DS but much larger)

Stretch Goals:
-As close to the same form factor as a 3DS XL as possible (I would like it to actually be pocketable)
-Some form of undervolting

I've mapped out a trim for the wii remote using the resources JacksonS has provided for his trims. I didn't have the revision boards that he had but thankfully the ones I did have were 90% the same layout. His scans were very useful for mapping out the difference. I had initially done a much more extreme cut like what he had used for the Wii SP 2.0 to get it as small as possible. This had too many small parts and wires for something I planned to use as an actual wii remote and kept giving me issues with staying all together and working nicely. I am using a more conservative trim that requires much less relocation with plans to possibly revise it later but I'm pretty happy with this first prototype. It has a rechargeable battery and is currently fully functional outside of taking out rumble and audio.

Threw together a clamshell design for this proof of concept (it's held together with hopes and lots of glue). I used basically all the same internals as an ashida for convenience, 3DS buttons, a 5000mah Li-po I had, and some ir leds in the top shell for the sensor bar. I designed a scaled up version of the GBA SP hinge layout and used GBA SP hinges.

To do list:
-I want to do a nicer layout and make the bottom half thinner since it pretty thick right now. The case was just quickly thrown together so it feels really flimsy and delicate. I will probably just do a full redesign anyway. Wii remote is should also be fully in the case in the complete version.
-I need a real battery set up because this has very little battery life.
-Try to squeeze back in rumble/audio into the wii remote and/or make it smaller.
-I have an RVL-DD to add in and some form of undervolting to figure out.
