Can changes to scaling or some other setting like enabling an input be done just by sending register write commands via I2C? I suppose the changes wouldn't be permanent that way.

I had some noise problems wiring PS2 to a LCD which I eliminated by having a ground wire twisted around the signal wires. I'm using enamel copper wire btw. I tried to use some shielded wires from a vga cable and that didn't solve the problem either. Only wrapping ground very close to the signal...
