It is time... for OpeN64!!!
OpeN64 is essentially a 1:1 recreation of the N64 motherboard. The project was designed in KiCAD, and was made to enable and inspire N64 related mods. OpeN64 is based off the 03 revision of the N64 motherboard, but for most AIO portable type mods, motherboard revisions between 01 and 04 (05 may or may not be supported) should work.
Here's a video I made covering OpeN64:
Here are some images covering the KiCAD view:
And here is a picture of the unit I assembled next to an OG board:
Here's a neat comparison between the newest revision of OpeN64 and an N64 motherboard with nothing on it:
RAM expansion works flawlessly:
I have put this unit through multiple 8-12 hour stress tests, I've regularly gamed on it for hours, and I have not yet seen a single sign of trouble. This may as well be an original unmodified N64 because that's all I've seen from it! I believe from the bottom of my heart that this project has been a wild success, and that any project based on it WILL work so long as no stupid changes are made to it. It is the original N64 board layout after all!
Disclaimer:
The OpeN64 shown in video footage and pictures is based off an earlier prototype version. As of right now, the most up to date version of OpeN64 is untested. Virtually nothing has changed between the known working prototype and the most up to date version. However, until a working revision of the 1.0 release is assembled (one is currently in progress...), I can't say FOR SURE that this 1.0 release version works.
Once the 1.0 revision is known good and working, I will post an update to this thread removing the disclaimer. And remember that despite my disclaimer, there's ABSOLUTELY no reason version 1.0 of OpeN64 shouldn't work perfectly!
On that note I have two commands for all of you BitBuilders... ENJOY! and GO NUTS!!! ;D
