Making a portable Retro Pi machine and just wondering what parts I can reuse.
The Wii U gamepad does not use any sort of common video source, so you would not be able to.
As Ginger said, unfortunately not. However, if you want to use a Wii U gamepad shell, there are plenty of screens that accept composite/VGA/HDMI that will fit that shell just fine.
You can use the gamepad's buttons and joysticks for it if you wire them to a teensy.
how would I be able to do that?
We recommend looking through our guide hub and guide submission section for most of our "how-to" guides, if you don't find something in there, then google is your next stop. Asking generic, "How do I do this" questions are fine but aren't as productive as really researching a subject and then asking more specific questions, which we are much more likely to be able to help with.
This link here inspired me to stuff a PS2 inside a Wii U gamepad - the author has a really good breakdown on how he's done it too
