I am working on a ps2 portable and trying to use a raspberry pi 4 as a smb server. I got it working using the Ethernet ports and a cable. I have now trimmed the ps2 and removed the Ethernet port on the pi and wired as the picture attached and it does not work. The pi 4 has POE but I am not sure if that changes the layout of the port.

In the 70k and 75k versions of the PS2 up to the possible first version of the 79k an ethernet transformer, IC H0037RL, is used, in the other versions from the 79k to the latest version of the 90k an RJ45 Connector with an internal transformer is used, I am not aware of any project with the use of network connection on PS2 that has worked without this transformer, but I do not rule out this possibility. Below are pictures of what I'm talking about.

The transformer inside the connector:

The transformer in what I consider to be the first version of the 79k:

this RJ45 connector has no transformer, just a connector with its pins.

Finally, this is the 79k transformer inside, see the similarity with the connector transformer of the other 79k and 90k versions.

Thank you! I have the 79k version with the built in transformer into the jack. I am just struggling with figuring out the connections on the PI. It has a 10 pin Ethernet jack. I am going to hook up the transformer from the PS2 and see if that works.

I think this is a schematic of the pis jack. I am not very familiar with Ethernet.

yes, the schematic is exactly this, the part of the 75ohm resistors and the 1nf/2000V capacitor is inside the connector.

Hmm.. test with multimeter? Test for shorts/continuity/grounding? Maybe cold solder joints? Touch up with flux?

Not sure what else to tell ya. Hopefully you get it figured out!
