Hi, I like the PSP's form factor and controls and I'm wondering if using arc custom firmware to emulate games makes the PSP a solid emulation handheld.
What are the best emulators?
What's the performance like?

Depends on what you want to play. Truthfully the PSP isn't very powerful, it does a good job, but it's design was very specific. What sorts of systems are you trying to emulate, and what is it about a PSP that makes you want to use one?

For context I use a modded PS Vita for playing PS1 games, and of course PSP games.

GBA since the screen scales really well and form factors are similar.
NES, SNES, PS1, N64, GB, GBC, Dreamcast VMU, other stuff.

Most of those would probably be alright, though I can see N64 having issues. You are right about the screen though, very good scaling.

I really really would recommend you use a Vita for this. You'll have the benefit of slightly newer hardware, more capable processor, better screen resolution, but at the exact same aspect ration, so the scaling will be the same, plus it runs a fairly decent version of RetroArch that can handle your handheld emulation. The only thing is that GBA tends to have the odd audio bug, but then again no emulation is 100% perfect.

Let us know what you end up going with though!

I think I'll end up going with a PSP bc you can get them cheap on eBay. Also there's some cool homebrew apps.

So what was your question exactly? Sounds like you already had your mind made up.

Well you would have loved the hayday of the PSP hacking scene back in the early 2000s. Gpsp kai was one of the best things to come out of it.
