Question How necessary are the microcomponents attached to each Gamecube controller port and how much board do I need around the GC ports?

Starting my first Wii project and as part of that I want to relocate the GC ports to work with the OMGWTF trim. I looked at the main trim guide and understand the basic principles of the relocation but the guide to me seemed to suggest I might need some of the small board mounted components that are attached to each of the GC ports and searching around I couldn't find any info on if I did or didn't need them. I was wondering if this is correct and I need to keep the board mounted stuff or if I can just trim back to just the solder joints of the GC ports as I'd rather not cut them off and find I need something I wrecked cutting the ports off
