Question Fan (or other recommended upgrades) for backwards compatible PS3

I recently got a backwards compatible PS3 and it has one of it's exceptionally loud cooling fans. I was wondering if there is a fan mod or replacement fan someone knows of, and while I'm at it I might as well ask what other mods/etc should I consider to help it perform at it's best.

You can probably find replacement fan parts if you look up the PS3's model number, but they'll likely not be OEM.

I have seen some people "improve cooling" by effectively drilling a big fuckoff hole in both sides of the case and bolting a 120mm PC fan to one side. I don't know how effective that would be on a launch PS3 considering the main board is CHONKY.

Aside from that, and some 3rd party "cooling dock" products on ebay, I'm not sure what else to suggest other than giving it a solid service and perhaps some new thermal pads/paste.
