Question don't currently have the funds to make a portable, but I should be able to soon, and I'd like to get an idea of what I'll need

So, first of all, I would like to try to make a clamshell style wii portable. I've been thinking about making a custom shell similar to the new 3ds xl. Do you think something like this would be possible, and if so, what all would I need?

Check out GMan's excellent N64 portable in a GBA SP-eque case. That design might help you.
