Question First Wii trim, no video

Hello everyone. This is my first Wii trim so please forgive me if I missed any steps.

My issue is that I get no video output when powering on my trimmed Wii. I did not trim the AV port so I assumed I should still get video after the trim. Is this true? I am using and cheap Amazon WII2HDMI dongle that worked fine for flashing RVloader.

My process so far. Trimmed and resistance checked the 4 layer board. Wired 1v, 1.15v, 3.3v, gnd to the PSU-Plus. Wire USB pd board configured for 9v output to the PSU-Plus. I verified continuity and voltage between PSU-Plus and Wii trim. My U10 relocation still has continuity to the correct via after the trim.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

One potential issue is this cut here, right by the USB ports, you cut into the board, and that goes straight over one of the USB lines on the other side. And you can't sand into that cut. You should cut that last bit off, and sand it down so it is smooth. And remove the components which are on the edge of getting cut up.

Also please "insert" the images into the post, instead of just attachments. It makes it easier to see. And include images of the underside, as it stands we can't see if there is any issues there, half cut components, U10 not being connected correctly, or anything else.

Also you have the fan connected, but I think that is connected to the 5V on the board, and it will never get power to turn on.

Similarly the Wii2HDMI, will likely be using the power from the port to convert from analog video to HDMI. But after the cut, there will be no 12v or 5v supplied to the connector, and the dongle will not be getting power. You need a dongle/adapter which has a separate power input

Something generic like this, which gets power from the usb port here, and just use a wall adapter, or your PC, as again the Wii will not have 5V on the USB ports anymore, so it can not power anything.

Dang. It's so obvious. There's no 12v or 5v going to the AV port. I can switch my USB pd board back to 12v and connect the 5v from PSU plus.

On the USB ports, I meant to leave then connected but didn't pay attention enough when trimming. I will eventually relocate the USB ports so I will go ahead and reconnect them with magnet wire.

Adding 12v and 5v to the AV port plus removing components on the edge wasn't sufficient. The fans turns on though . I also wired up two of the 4 USB data lines and 5v to both USB lines. My flash drive doesn't blink like it should when it's working.

Unfortunately my multimeter died after ~15 years. I ordered a composite cable that I can cut up and do a simpler video connection. I will start with trimming the gash near the USB ports today.

Fan turning on is a good sign.
I would twist the usb data lines more, as in, use a drill or dremel to putting one end of the two wires in there, and put the other end on something fixed, really twist them together till they start curling in on itself. Then use a multimeter to check which wire goes where.
But trimming the gash and sanding thoroughly does often fix issues, so I would focus on that. It should boot/show video even without the usb, but if there is a short in that gash, it might cause issues in booting.

Ok so still no video after trimming out the triangle near the USB and sanding to 1000 grit. The fan no longer turns on but I believe this last but trimmed off had connections for it.

One thing of concern is the voltages that I'm measuring on the board.
1.15 line measures 1.03v
1.0v line measures .87v
The same measurements on the PSU-PLUS are only .01v or less off.

This makes me think my wires may be causing an issue. I'm using 28 awg stranded silicone covered wire from Amazon that I have from 3D printer builds. The guides on here specifically mention that you can't put 1v onto the 1.15v line and that's essentially what is happening to me unintentionally.

Looks like the wire size is the likely an issue. Of course now I see the manual on here about using 22 awg....

I had a spool of just red and black 22 awg that I quickly swapped everything with and it works! I can see RVloader using the HDMI dongle.

Now onto integrating into a case and adding GC controller support. Mine didn't come with GC controller ports so I was planning to use the front panel from the GC Nano headphones jacks with adapters.
