I was thinking of making a portable sometime in the future but was curious should I use an already built case or model my own? I know almost nothing about 3D modeling and my 3D printer is quite small but I was hoping to customize my own case, this is going to be my first portable and I don’t want to get to ambitious any help is appreciated thank you.

Use an already designed case as they are tested and are known to fit all the basics. Creating a custom case takes time and a lot of testing.

Yep, Wesk is right. Maybe you can start learning 3D modeling in parallel with some simpler projects, so that you'll be ready to create your own case the next time. I use Fusion 360 and would suggest it, mainly because it's free and there's plenty of learning material online. Good luck with your work!

Ok thank you are there any good cases you think I should start with or should I just look around online?
