Hi whoever is reading this worklog

I'm currently making a portable Wii console inside of a WiiU gamepad. It will feature a 6.2" screen and a gamecube-based controller layout.

Once I get the parts for this project I will start to post updates here. Any ideas / suggestions will be very much appreciated!

Update 1: I am changing the name from "New Nintendo Wii Ultra" to "Wiimpii"

Wow, I haven't posted in a while. But finally, I have an update!

UPDATE 2:

I just got most of the parts in the mail, and was able to get the Wii working so I can mod it. I also gutted the Wii U gamepad, except for the joysticks. I'm replacing the flex cables with momentary switches, which will fit through holes drilled in the plastic backing (the white thing). I also started soldering the to the buttons on the bottom 2 boards, which is actually easier than I originally thought. Currently, I'm just trying to decide how I should remap the buttons to the RP2040. Any ideas on how to do that would be great. Pretty much I just need to figure out what to switch with the vol + / - buttons. The home button is going to be made the power button, as it already has a decent LED under it.

I'm looking forward to see the final version of this project! :)

nice project if I can recommend it seems definitely too much x4 21700 batteries considering that each one alone weighs over 70g, in my opinion 2 are enough to have decent autonomy

I recently ripped apart some old battery pack and got 8 18650 cells, so I am probably going to switch to those.

UPDATE 3
So I had the brilliant idea to drill holes in those white plastic things and glue buttons in them. I regret it. The holes are horribly aligned, and half the buttons are now jammed due to the glue.

Does anyone have 3D models of those brackets, preferably with slots for buttons to go in?

I went ahead and assembled the controller board, just have to make the brackets and I can test it out. Hopefully I got all the dimensions correct, this took forever to arrive
