Hi all!
Long time without a post but I am back and with more electronics knowledge learnt this past few years, I'm ready to give it another shot!
This time the project is planned to be much simpler and smaller scope so I can actually finish this and learn on the way!
The idea is a handheld based on the Banana Pi M5 board running Android that will allow for emulation, and the use of XCloud and PS remote play so I can play a wide variety of games. The handheld is to look like a Gameboy DMG in a PS1 style and will attempt to recreate this as if it were from that time period.
This means there will be much less pesky soldering etc. and I can make a handheld that is mainly concentrated on aesthetics without as much complexity as a Wii portable for example.
Also, the power consumption of the board is much less (with the screen I measured the load to be around 4W which is nice and low which should make cooling easier and battery life better.
Look forward to seeing progress here. The parts are in, the spare time is not!
Planned Features:
- 3.5" LCD 640x480, nice and crisp.
- AmLogic S905X3 which should allow for emulation up to Dreamcast and PSP.
- (hopefully) 2x18650 3500mAh cells allowing for HUGE battery life.
- Charge and play functionality!
- Really *cool* PS1 styled case in resin.
- (hopefully) custom PCB for the controller! I am pretty awful at PCB design and making something simple like a board for face buttons *should* help me better learn this useful skill.
- Automatic audio switching between speakers and headphone jack with adjustable volume!
