I am very new to portable consoles and have always had this infatuation with retro games and tech and would like to know if it would be easier to make a G-Wii, an Ashida, or perhaps create my own. I am open to trying anything and taking as much time as needed.

Since you are new to portable consoles I would recommend to start with something like the Ashida or the Louii, because the main parts can be easily found on the 4Layertech shop (in addition there are listed all the other necessary components, and the various diagrams) and you can easily get the file to print the shell for your portable.
My advice, however, is to build the portable console you prefer, because even if you do not have the necessary skills, you will have the opportunity to learn something new, and if you have any problems, just ask, the BitBuilt community will be always ready to help you

Wouldn't a Noldendo be much better to start off with? That's what I recommended, as it uses less parts and is for 6-layer Wii's and because its partially portable (still needing a monitor)

A Noldendo or a Wii Micro is obviously something quite "easier" but just because the screen and the various buttons are missing

Thank you for your feedback and will take this in account for my decision but I noticed that the pcbs for the ashida are not available yet any idea when they may come out?

I've heard in the next 2 weeks, hopefully that's still the case.

If that is the case then I will attempt the Ashida. Are there any good guides or worklogs I could use?

If you go on the 4Lateryech store ( https://4layertech.com/products/ashida-pcb-set ) there are diagrams below each product

On BitBuilt ( https://www.bitbuilt.net/forums/index.php?forums/wii.123/ )there are many worklogs that you can use to check your progress and understand if you're doing something wrong.
Plus you can use the following links, where you can find the definitive Wii trimming, and the various relocations

G-Boy manual: https://manual.bitbuilt.net/guide/g-boy-rev-3-complete-kit-assembly/

Thankyou for your help.

Make a Wiiclipse, then you wouldn't have to wait for Ashida boards to be back in stock

In all seriousness, if you have a problem you cant figure out how to fix from the guides and other people's worklogs, I recommend joining the BitBuilt discord.
I have joined the discord already, but I was wondering what is the Wiiclipse?

Hot air can be beneficial for removing the LDO amongst other things but by no means is a requirement, especially if you have a good iron.
If you're using the 4LayerTech PMS lite then you don't even want to remove the LDO.

alright thankyou
The Wiiclipse is Chickabruh's portable that he designed himself, and he's doing a damn good job.
I'm currently working on my own personal ashida, but a good tip: get as much info as you can. Portables are expensive and the only reason I can afford mine is because it's a school project. Obviously I wont bore you with price, it's more fun to think about the cool portable you'll build! But always something to keep in mind. I'm not far into my ashida build, but feel free to follow along. I've been using CalebPikmin's Black Ashida Worklog as a guide, as well as the 4LayerTech diagrams. Of course the discord will always have someone responding to you within half an hour or less, so it's always good to ask questions on there.

Thanks for telling me about it. I checked it out Chickabruh's portable and it looks great, and good luck on your ashida.
