This is super low importance but I've been thinking about it a lot recently, maybe it's relevant to other people too. I can't seem to find a database of Wii games that lists tech specs, specifically aspect ratios and controllers supported.

Basically I'm looking to build a Wii Portable with a 640 x 480 screen primarily to play GameCube games, but while I'm at it I might as well play some Wii games too. Ideally I'd like to play games that feel like a natural extension of the GC library, primarily ones that use GameCube (or easily remapped pro controller) controls and games that natively support 4:3 display to avoid stretching or letterboxing. I've found no database or documentation that lists Wii games and their supported output aspect ratios, and I find that pretty suprising. I know that most games on the system support both, some only support widescreen and (I assume) some only support 4:3. There are some annectotal lists people have made that reference different aspect ratios - for example I've seen people list the games they know only to support 16:9 - but nothing that exhaustive or reliable. This might seem trivial but, for example, I was interested in playing Xenoblade Chronicles only to discover that it's one of the widescreen-only games from the library.

Controller support is a different story as I use the Dolphin Wiki to verify what controllers various Wii games support. Great... right? Well sort of, except that if I head to the "Category:GameCube Controller (Input supported)" page it features both Wii, GameCube and Virtual Console Games.

All this to say, I'm just surprised there isn't a resource that lists Wii games and various tech specs such as the above. I've seen equivelant for the PS2 and the GameCube, even if only to list games that supported non-standard aspect ratios or non-standard resolutions. Or maybe... maybe I didn't look hard enough? If you know of anything like I've described then let me know. Happy to be wrong.

Follow up, just discovered that when in USB Loader GX it will display supported controllers when you look into the details of each game. This isn't as handy as having a database, but for my personal purposes I could load up all the games I'm interested in to USB Loader GX and quickly determine what controllers are supported.

Yeah, I’ve run into the same issue—there really isn’t a clean, all-in-one database for Wii specs like aspect ratio + controller support. Most of the time you have to piece it together from places like the Dolphin Wiki, random forum lists, or just test it yourself. Using USB Loader GX like you mentioned is honestly one of the most practical workarounds right now
