I haven’t built this one yet — I’m just starting my first project, and I currently have six projects planned in total.

This is project #6 in my DIY series. For this build, I’m planning a portable console inspired by the Color TV-Game Series, using a Raspberry Pi 5 to recreate the original Color TV-Game lineup.

Before I make my game collection, I’d like to understand what the community considers the best Color TV-Game–inspired portable that has been made on BitBuilt so far.

This is for recreating the portables so I can make my portable console game collection.

If you know of a standout build, please link to the project or name it (rather than reposting images unless you have permission).

Thanks in advance for the help — I really appreciate the insight from the community! IMG_2519.webp

I'm very confused about what you're asking for. All traditional game consoles after the NES are colour TV systems

I’m asking for the #1 Best Portable Raspberry Pi-5 Console, which I will use for playing all games from the Color TV-Game Series.

This is what the Color TV-Game Series is:

and I get why you’re confused. Nobody ever talked about this console until now! Also, this Nintendo 1st video game console, the NES was not the 1st!

Ah, well afaik no-one here has even mentioned this system before. You'll be the first one to make a portable Colour TV-Game system!

Jk. As for your question, I'm interpreting it as meaning "Is there an existing handheld portable based on a Pi 5". If so, there definitely have been some portables designed around the Raspberry Pi 5 / Compute Module 5. The 2 that I can remember from the top of my head are the PSPi and the PiBoy DMG. The former is a relatively simple mod for a PSP shell, while the latter was a design meant to replicate the original GB. If you want to design one with your specific asthetic in mind, however, I'm sure people here are willing to help with the CAD work if you make a proper buildlog with your specific goals stated.

Though, if I may ask, why the Pi 5? If all you want is a handheld to emulate Color TV games, there are more suitable, lower power SBCs that'll work better in this case (i.e, Pi zero 2w). In fact, do you even need a SBC powered portable? If you don't care about how the shell looks, a $30 R36s will emulate color TV games perfectly with a retroarch frontend.

On another note, please fix your writing style. With all respect, It's genuienly difficult to understand what you're trying to say.

Also every time you edit your posts I'm having to review them... it's becoming tedious.

I’m being real with you. This is the 1st post where I replied to someone I joined BitBuild 3+ months ago. I’m used to posting on Reddit because I’ve been there for more than a year.

1st, you have a point. The Pi-Zero 2 W can work because it’s the Color Tv-Game Series. They can run on milk jugs. 2nd, when 2030 comes around, I’ll make the 1st portable Color Tv-Game Series console. 3rd, you’re right, my typing is absolutely terrible!
