Hi,

I've been looking to build a portable Wii for quite some time now. I will mainly be using it to play Gamecube games, and some of the Wii/Virtual Console games that can be played with Gamecube and/or Classic Controller. Even with my somewhat more detailed understanding, I still have several questions:

1. I'm using the Ashida as a design base, but there is one problem with it-the Gamecube buttons. If I am using this for emulators and virtual console, then, at least in my opinion, the Gamecube buttons would be awkward to use for some SNES games. I do have several Gamecube controllers lying around so getting them is not a problem if I do end up having to stick it out and use Gamecube buttons.

2. Sorry if this question is too commonly asked, but, what in general do I need to build this project? I have a decent soldering iron, and a tool kit. In the Wii trim guide, it has an optional step of removing the LDO from the Wii. I do not have a great hot air station-how necessary is removing the LDO?

The Ashida doesn't have any variants in terms of using a symmetrical abxy layout. It's Gamecube layout or bust atm, unless you edit the case files yourself to use SNES or Switch Pro buttons or something.

Removing the LDO is unneccessary. Doing so can add a handful of extra minutes of runtime to the system when using more efficient regulators, but it isn't required and actually should not be done if using the RVL-PMS-Lite as it does not have an onboard 1.8v regulator and requires the LDO to be present as a logic reference
