Hi.
I would like to do a portable wii. Probably the Ashida version.
Since I live in Europe I have easy access to European Wiis. Buying a US/JAP one is out of the question.

I've been trying to search this forum to see if there's any difference using a PAL Wii rather than US/JAP?
In the end I would like to play NTSC games, both JAP and US versions.

My concerns are PAL is 50Hz refresh rather than 60Hz. Maybe some difference with video signal.
Is the The Definitive Wii Trimming Guide
valid for PAL hardware as well as long as you have the 4-layer version?

Any help appreciated.

im pretty sure all wiis are 60 hz. 50 hz comes from some games so all wiis are good only beware the games.
also im pretty sure most family edition wiis are 4 layers.

Thanks for your quick reply! Also I realised I can just software mod it and try it out before starting cutting and ordering parts.

The Wii has no regional hardware differences like older systems like the N64 do, regional restrictions are all done in software. RVLoader removes those restrictions, so you can force 480p 60Hz in a lot of PAL games, or just play the NTSC versions of games with no penalty. Some PAL games don't support resolution forcing (Spyro Enter The Dragonfly and Mario Sunshine PAL versions are funky), but most games from the latter half of the console's life cycle do support it.
