Worklog *Question*chip sizes for case design

Both of those boards are open source so you could just download the source and check there. I don't use KiCAD so I don't know the size of Gman's board but I do know that GC+ is 23.75 x 23.75mm.

Worklog Greasy Idiot's First Portable (WIP)

About your screen, you should probably see if you can get it to work on 5v, we can help you if you're stuck. You probably won't be able to find a screen that works on 5v out of the box, most are designed for 12v. 1. The Hakko FX888D is a great iron, it runs around 90 dollars. If that's out of...

    Question Starting my first portable!

No, you cannot use a usb encoder because the gamecube data line isn't USB. People have used mobile chargers before but you need to make sure they can output enough current (2.4A should be enough if you are using a 4 layer), and it should support charging while outputting current. Also you want...

Question First Wii Portable (Gwii Case). Several Questions before I start trimming.

Well I would remove the wire first and if the short is still there probably check the edges of the board for copper shorting the layers together and sand more with a finer grit.

If the 1V line has a resistance of 8.5 ohms to ground that's definitely a problem

Question First Wii Portable (Gwii Case). Several Questions before I start trimming.

What are you still confused about? All of the voltage points on the board are internally connected, so you only need to power one of them. Aside from that 1.8v point that requires a wire since you sever that connection when trimming the board. So you can either connect all your peripherals to...

Question First Wii Portable (Gwii Case). Several Questions before I start trimming.

To clear up some points Deonaught missed, you cannot use magnet wire for your power lines, I don't know if that's a typo. I recommend just using 22awg wire for all power purposes. In your diagram, notice that in both pictures your components are connected in parallel, so it's the same thing...

    Jeff's Wii Micro

If are interested in making your own it is relatively simple. I perform the OMGWTF trim but retain the USB port, AV out port, and the fourth screwhole. You need some regulators, in this case I designed a powermii lite clone but without the 5v regulator since I chose to power from USB C. If you...

Question First Wii Portable (Gwii Case). Several Questions before I start trimming.

Just solder to the other side of the capacitor pad. But you should really reevaluate the iron you're using or your technique.. Definitely turn the temp down.

    Question help with populating pcbs

It's going to be basically impossible. It's pretty important that the pads on the bottom of the chips make a good connection and it's not possible for you to solder those with a soldering iron. Even if you could solder it without hot air, you'd have to have a lot of skill soldering to solder QFN...

    Cut the trace here.

    Question u10 relocation

Best way is to follow the trace until it eventually goes to a via, then you can use a multimeter to check for continuity between the pad and the via. You just cut the trace until there is no longer continuity. It doesn't take a ton of force.

Question Switches for Controller and AV out?

For a controller port, you would just switch the data line. For example the player 1 data line from the Wii motherboard would be hooked up to the center pin on the switch, and the data line to the external port and the data line to your internal controller would be the things the switch could...
