Question Ashida fdm printing

I am about to print my Ashida shell with my Elegoo Neptune 3 Pro and have some questions before I start. Are there any print settings that will help? What infill is best? Cura says that both halves will fit, the top vertical and the bottom diagonal, so I assume I won't have space problems. I only have 1 kg of filament to use for this case, so I would like to get it done right the first time.

I did a layer height of 1.6 and infill of around 25% I think, Im not 100% sure about the rest, Ill give it a look when I get home and get back to you.

I'm guessing you meant 0.16mm layer height, but I can't get the comical mental picture of a 1.6mm layer height Ashida out of my head

Layer height 0.16mm, wall line count 4 with a thickness of 1.8mm, 25% infill but I think you can do anything from 20-30%. Anything temperature wise is going to be filament specific. Speed was 50mm/s, fan speed 80% to reduce warping, I was using pla so fan speed will also be filament specific. I used tree supports, but I doubt it will make any difference for either support type. Print it using the default orientation of the 3mf files to reduce the number of supports needed, you may need to rotate the print diagonally to fit your bed if it is 220x220 like mine, use an extra support modifier on screw posts, some of mine got messed up. Keep in mind that I am not very experienced with 3d printing, many people on this forum are more knowledgeable than me, but I was very happy with my result. As someone who's printed quite a few Ashida shells, I can safely say that the default settings in Wesk's published .3mf files work perfectly well. Here's a screenshot showing all the settings:

Didnt know the 3mf came with settings pre configured, Ill have to try it next time. is the standard support type better than tree?

Last I checked, there didn't exist a tree support preset for the Ashida. I think you'd have to manually brush on the tree supports in Prusa Slicer (or whatever slicing program you use). One of these days, if no one else gets around to it, I'll see if I can set up a working tree support configuration. Would be great since it'd save a ton of filament!

I use cura, and all I did was click the support type organic in the dropdown.

None of the settings in these files transferred over into Prusa Slicer unfortunately. I imagine what you shared here is probably better than anything I could come up with seeing how it's done in a software more people use nowadays. Here's a screenshot of what Prusa Slicer came up with using default organic supports:

Definitely seems like it'd work, but I feel like it's a bit excessive. You could probably optimize this quite a lot and get the material usage down even more.

Gosh, that's a bummer. Yeah, those supports are absolutely too excessive for just that front piece. I could definitely write up a list of the settings I used that differ from default. You'd still have to enter them in manually, but at least it wouldn't be an overkill amount of support.

That's how I printed mine. I couldn't figure out to show the virtual supports in cura.
