or should I call it the Wii GamePad Portable?
Wii Portable GamePad?
Names are hard.

Anyways I've finally decided to build my first Wii portable and I figured I might as well enter the contest.
The idea should be nice and simple. Making a Wii portable in a Wii U GamePad. I always thought it would make a perfect case so why not give it a shot?

Goals:
Try to keep original shell
6.5" VGA screen
built in sensor bar
access USB and batteries from back panel if all fit nicely.

I'm using a 6 layer Wii that I found by a dumpster (it still works perfectly!)

So far I have the U10 and the Bluetooth relocated and working properly.
Trying to keep it looking as clean as I can.

I plan to do the trim next and give it all a test when I can order in the GC+ and the Wii power management system

That’s actually a really smart choice for a first portable — the Wii U GamePad shell already has the ergonomics, button layout and space, so you’re skipping a lot of the painful enclosure design phase.

Keeping the original shell is definitely the right move. It’ll look way more “official” than a scratch build if you can pull it off cleanly. A 6.5" VGA is a solid fit too and integrating the sensor bar internally will make it feel properly self-contained.

Nice score on the dumpster 6-layer Wii those are great to practice trims on since they’re more forgiving. Good call relocating U10 and Bluetooth first; that’s where a lot of first builds go wrong.

As for the name, honestly “Wii U Wii” chaos aside, I’d keep it simple — “WiiPad” sounds clean and believable. “WiipPad” is funny, but WiiPad feels more natural.
