I'm thinking of building a portable and was wondering whether I should make an Ashida or G-Boy. Or just in general pros and cons between the two. I know the Ashida has more accessible parts right now but also I've seen people make a G-Boy with custom pcbs to fit the 4Layer boards. Also what is the differences in difficulty between the two for a beginner? Thanks for any help.

Hi! I think the g-boy is easier to do than the ashida, it also cost less than an ashida.(I think).

The Ashida is larger, more beginner friendly, and has longer battery life. The GBoy is more compact, more fiddly to assemble due to cramped space, and has lesser battery life.

The PCBs for the Ashida can all be bought from 4layertech in a simple kit and have full wiring diagrams, whereas the GBoy PCBs need to be ordered through a manufacturer via the gerber files and have no up to date diagrams.

You have to do the same soldering work for both, but the extra room inside the Ashida makes your first attempts at routing the wires easier.
