With all the testing I did it made little to no difference which way the fan was oriented.

Make sure the heatsinks are actually stuck to the GPU/CPU IHS. If they are then the temps will be fine. If you're really worried just crank the fan settings to max in RVLoader.

    Worklog Final Destination Omega Trim

Today we pay our respects to the first FD Omega. It gave it's life in pursuit of greater memes and it seems it flew too close to the sun. After it's fourth/fifth overheat (somewhat deliberate) it decided it was time to move to the great beyond to join Yamauchi and Iwata in eternal bliss. But...

It's done Here's a quick look at the most cursed looking trim before I had finished it: And here's a look at the *final* trim (an extra mm can be taken from the bottom but I cbf atm): I've been running the system for about 3 hours now and it's running absolutely flawlessly, stability is...

Slowly does it. After trimming and tetris-ing the AVE and CPU filter components so that they fit nice and snug on the back I performed a 2 hour run-in to verify the system was stable. Here's how she looked: I've now trimmed the CPU side and have begun stability testing again, I'll verify...

    Worklog Final Destination Omega Trim

I usually run a four CPU Ice climbers, very high pokeballs only in endless melee which I did end up doing for this current trim as I had to wire up a controller for other reasons. But if you don't have a controller hooked up (Which is me a lot of the time when testing Omega trims) the F-Zero and...

    Worklog Final Destination Omega Trim

Third time's a charm I came across yet another half-complete trim in one of my many project boxes and this one is now destined for greatness. With what I've learned from the previous trim I can optimise the build order/process which should make things far easier. I will also be keeping all of...

    Worklog Final Destination Omega Trim

Stability issues.... So first off, seems the via I'm using for 1.15v may be a little too small as the solder joint kept breaking. This could be a number of things including thermal expansion/contraction or just a shitty connection on my behalf. Either way I decided to dig down into a voltage...

GND is GND, you can use any ground point for shielding the video lines. H and V sync don't need to be shielded in this particular instance.

    Worklog Final Destination Omega Trim

It lives! After testing and reflowing a few joints it looks like it was related to the 1.15v via, I've reflowed it and secured the connection more and it's up and running again! It's not surprising as there is a fair amount of current flowing through such a tiny via, possibly causing the...

    Worklog Final Destination Omega Trim

So anyway, I began testin' I had yet to actually test if this trim was stable, so I configured the system to automatically boot into F-Zero GX (no controller wired) as it has a decent loop of gameplay and FMV's. There is a Wii under there somewhere: F-Zero was successfully running and...
