Using magnet wire for all the conductors without shielding doesn't sound like the best solution.
If I were to cut the connector off one side of a VGA cable and solder the respective signals, I'd need to solder the individual conductors' shields with the braided shield, and finally to a ground...
It was more about capacity than speed with that 2.0 bottleneck.
