I have decided not to put IR LEDs in my system, and games that require an upright wiimote will simply require you to connect another wiimote. I think that is an alright solution. I didn't dismiss the idea completely, but I figured that finding some way to make the controls work both ways...

Yes, the wiimote is an a sideways orientarion with the accelerometer still attached so that you can tilt or shake the system (maybe not a good idea) in games like Paper Mario or New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

Maybe I gave off the impression that I haven't planned this out well. I have. Yes, there are tons of components and lots of wiring, but I like to have a lot of features and I'm going to enjoy making this.

Thank you, I suppose they do exist on the Wii remote because I haven't had any issues without them. I got the Musou adapter. It looks great on the Wii (much better than composite video) and it does not upscale. I can connect it to a Wii U and it outputs 1080p almost as well as the built-in HDMI...

Due to using a conventional oven, I had to do the vacuum forming in my kitchen. Melting plastic in the kitchen may have been a terrible idea but I haven't tasted any traces of it yet. The mold on top of the table before forming the plastic: I had to form the front three times, heating the...

To make the case, I found a little tutorial online to build a vacuum forming table with wood and some pegboard. This is my first time vacuum forming and it's all pretty makeshift; I'm using a conventional oven and a household vacuum cleaner. The plastic I'm using is High Impact Polystyrene...

Well yeah I was going to keep it for homebrew but the things Shank said are relevant too.

Now that I'm not spending my nights slaving away on school work, I've got a new portable to make. It's been a long time since I've done any big projects with a gaming system, so I'm excited to see how it turns out. I want this to be an all-Wii portable, ensuring that it emphasizes this is a Wii...

    Guide Pinout for Wiimote Trimming

While messing around with an older Nintendo Wii remote (without Motion Plus) I found the following pinout for all the buttons on the controller. The vias lie right where the speaker sits, underneath the Broadcom chip. Pin 13 ("Common") is the common line that all the buttons connect to. You can...

This would be fantastic to use. I've always had to worry about 3DS sliders working correctly.

I've recently become interested in the prospect of portable consoles...

With this portablizing stuff, you get to choose how complex you want each part to be. As you've probably found from research, a lot of people have their own way of putting a system together. Some may have a backgrounds that allow them to excel in casing or wiring or other things, while others...

I have to ask why your homebrew channel is upside down.

What screen do y'all suggest for a Premium Wiimium Memeium?

For Wii, I'd say definitely go with 16:9. For GC, 4:3 is probably better (but there are widescreen hacks that work most of the time).

Question Best way to get HDMI out of a Wii

The component to VGA converter use by Ashen looks good, but it does not support a 480i component signal. It does not upscale (some HDMI converters do not upscale either). The Wii can usually output in just 480p, but there are some times (like in certain GC games) where 480i is more convenient...

Guide The definitive Wii trimming guide is live!

Yes, that's a good idea. Just make sure you sand the edges of it so that 3.3v doesn't somehow get shorted to GND.

Question Looking for a case for my GCP

Vacuum forming isn't bad. The table isn't too hard to make and you can use a conventional oven. You would still have to do some "frankencasing" with it. If you find a certain plastic enclosure that you like, like anything on Poylcase.com, you could probably ask someone in the Trading Area to cut...

I'm guessing you won't try batteries? I bet lithium polymer would work, but the thickness would be huge.

I never thought of putting a tact switch upside down. I bet that works better since there's a nice flat surface on top.

I tried to do this a while ago and got hung up because the 1v stopped outputting anything.
