    Worklog EknonCo's PS2 Portable! (I'm a noob, pls help)

I had issues with my charger discharging my batteries (as odd as that sounds) so make sure you get one approved by the group unless you have room to drop a relay in also. If I ever do make another portable however, I'll probably power it off of a USB power bank and make everything external.

    PS2 Portable Assorted Issues

I never knew that! Thanks so much! My next issue is stuttering in the audio system that I introduced somewhere along the line. Man this has turned into a tar-baby! EDIT: Lots of testing later and it turns out that the audio amp simply just died. No higher reason, no apparent damage, it just...

    PS2 Portable Assorted Issues

Ok, turns out that shielding is the answer to this one, and the control line is sensitive as all f*ck. I remember a couple of posts with people complaining of control issues and was picking through them to try and find the answer. I ended up using some good computer cable which did the trick for...

    PS2 Portable Assorted Issues

So: Quick update and another question. Another relay resolved the above issue, and things now work pretty well, dropping a medium cap in also covered for the relays engaging so that the unit would continue operating when the power was plugged in or unplugged. I assembled it last night and she...

    Worklog EknonCo's PS2 Portable! (I'm a noob, pls help)

Pertaining to the question about a question thread: I'm really new here so cannot advise sorry. But pertaining to the 5V regulator: it might pay if you get something bigger than 600mA. A basic PS2 draws about 2A at times (unless we finally get our grubby hands on GMans trimming guide!) so that...

    Worklog EknonCo's PS2 Portable! (I'm a noob, pls help)

I'd be suspicious of the mAh rating on those batteries, but aside from that: -I've had a lot of success with different TFT screens for various projects, some of them actually run as low as 6V but they can be "less bright" at lower voltages, still: very flexible, and a good solution -You'll need...

    PS2 Portable Assorted Issues

Ok, I've another question, and sorry if this one is off topic. So I've just finished painting and finishing the frankencase and was installing all the different components. Now I always wanted to get in a battery charger for the 26650s that powered it, so grabbed this one here...

    PS2 Portable Assorted Issues

Hmmm...good suggestions but no love there, I'm also scared as all hell to take anything off the board as I've minimal funds to replace components or buy another PS2. I'll test progressively with the next unit and see if it dies and where. We might never resolve this one and it'll probably be...

    PS2 Portable Assorted Issues

I have been testing with a couple of games because the opening "swoosh" is very quiet, and also came across setting the system clock in another forum :) My board trim is a little more aggressive than the usual one as I figured the "left" side was handling the disc drive, but didn't know much...

    PS2 Portable Assorted Issues

Enigmatically, yes it does. I'm at a loss to figure out what's gone wrong here but it'd seem it has to do with the PS2 board itself. I should provide a little background to myself here, but should have done earlier. I'm a hobbyist electrical guy specialising in Nintendo 64s and Raspberry Pis...

    PS2 Portable Assorted Issues

Good idea, but easy to check as I've wired this to run off of mains also and it's still having the same issue. According to the manufacturer specs the batteries are 5C 4000 mAh which should do the trick, but it's something sure to watch out for down the road. Fortunately the cheap clock (which...

    PS2 Portable Assorted Issues

Yes, hailraizer is a bypass of that component. I'm using a DC-DC converter which is significantly more efficient, and the unit is powered by two 26650 cells. Now thinking about your numbers there I'm wondering if it's a current issue as I'm also using the line to power the audio amp, fan, and...

    PS2 Portable Assorted Issues

I've wired the regulator up using the hailraiser mod, or was there another one you were talking about? I've been wondering if one of the components died or got detached somewhere (there's a little rot on the underside of the board which could be the cause of the issue), but don't really have a...

    PS2 Portable Assorted Issues

I've purchased another one off the NZ version of ebay so will roll the dice and see how it goes. They're all getting pretty shot nowdays and it's unusual to see a board that doesn't have at least a little bit of rot in it - people just don't look after their stuff :( I was also wondering if...

    PS2 Portable Assorted Issues

Checking for continuity was about the third thing I did here, I'm not reading any shorts but they are a little ragged as I've been messing with them. Oddly enough the wires were salvaged off of an audio extension so I figured they'd not be prone to interference but at worst that'd create excess...

    PS2 Portable Assorted Issues

Well I've tried another audio amp and haven't much got any sound out of this unit, leading me to conclude that it's probably dead despite no obvious reason why. I'm open to suggestions! Is the playstation audio horribly quiet or something? I'll have to see about purchasing another one - and...

    PS2 Portable Assorted Issues

I figured it wasn't either, but as fate would have it when I covered the fragile SD card to USB adapter with it I was getting just enough conductance across the pins on it to cause the console to lock up. Removing the component seemed to fix the issue and it now at least starts up. I was using...

    PS2 Portable Assorted Issues

I should be onto my second PS2 portable by now, but couldn't leave well enough alone and decided to open up the first one I had made and do some improvements. First up: a much better frankencase, second: a better audio amp so the sound wasn't so scratchy. Thing is that now I just cannot get...

    Best controller for PS2 Portable

To follow this up - I got hold of RDC an he turned out to have a couple of mini boards left lying about and was incredibly helpful! Sure they cost a little more, but it's about the best solution available to me I think. Thanks so much for all your help!

    Best controller for PS2 Portable

That's a fantastic little work-log! Given the dramas that my last one caused, and the issues I've been having with this one my partner said I should keep a blog. If not for the electronics but for the things like "ordered batteries X, got something I don't even recognise" moments! I might ask...
