According to different gamecube projects, you can replace the disc drive with picoboot. If im not mistaken, you'll also need either an sd memory card adapter or an sd2sp2 adapter. There are many youtube videos on how to get picoboot up and running.

I don't think the trim would work. The proposed trim would look like this The colored lines are the controller data lines. The proposed trim cuts the highlighted lines. The trim keeping the memory card and usb ports may work, but you'll have to check the compendium.

I used a KN-95 when trimming, but I'll probably use something else next time. I got sick the day after. I know some people use painting respirators, face shields, etc.

On a more serious note, you'll also need a variety of sand paper. After cutting, you'll need to sand the board to make sure the layers don't bridge. Also, get a proper mask for trimming. Trust me, cancer's not worth it. Another thing is a multimeter. This will be useful for troubleshooting.
