Worklog AtomicPlayStation2: My first portable project. My first portable PS2.

Do you get any letterboxing through the image upscaler? The one that I used for one of my portables had quite a large border around the entire image and it was a true shame as it'd be perfect if it didn't do that. I'd hope that this issue has been resolved because it really knocks down the...

No, he went dark. I've not heard from him for a while and can only hope that he's well.

Question PS2 plus controller strange issues

I think that these should be good recordings. I'll also apologise that I've been unable to do more, check them out, or proof them that they're good recordings. They're all from games that don't recognise the PS2+ and should be chatter from a bona fide Playstation 2 controller. I'm sure it'll be...

Question PS2 plus controller strange issues

I looked into it a little bit until I got hit with some health problems that rather changed what I was focusing on in life. I did take some dumps of original controller "handshakes" with the PS2 for games that had issues with the PS+, if you need them I could try and find them again but it was a...

Worklog MRKane's final PS2 portable, first competition entry

That's a fantastic tutorial! It's also significantly less fiddly than having to setup a Pi - especially for someone who's not at home with Linux, as I can see why that would quickly become frustrating! The board you've shown is a stitch larger than the OrangePi Zero, but appears to have a...

Worklog MRKane's final PS2 portable, first competition entry

That looks like a fantastic solution djsedaw! Given that the OrangePi is already built in I won't be changing it, and I used it because I had it lying around - but in saying that someone really should start a thread for devices that people can use as servers in their PS2 portables as things are...

Worklog MRKane's final PS2 portable, first competition entry

Time to rename this thread to "revising the id". So following the competition I was so sick of this project that I threw it in a box and shoved it in a cupboard, then went back to my usual pursuits that involved being outdoors, getting into strange situations, being hopelessly lost when the GPS...

    Worklog N64 Overclock Fixes

I guess the next catch 22 is that if either clock is increased too much then my Everdrive won't boot which kind of undermines the entire process really. Frustratingly I also couldn't enable debug menus as a result of this. The point of attack that interests me at this stage would be improving...

    Worklog N64 Overclock Fixes

I did swap out with the Toshiba ram as a test to see if I could push the ram clock a bit further, and remember EB1560 doing the latency tests using that ram over at Shootersforever. Logically the test I could try with low latency ram is to see if reducing the latency would reduce the tearing on...

    Worklog N64 Overclock Fixes

I don't know that that'd help much - we could manually count fps I guess but it wouldn't surprise me if the UltraHDMI buffered and maintained a consistent 60fps only changing when the video changes from the N64 itself. Cool little gadget however!

    Worklog N64 Overclock Fixes

EB1560 did some fantastic stuff when probing the ram timings and really helped us rule out that much of the equation. What I wanted to test here was overclocking the crystals by 50% and then dropping the CPU down to the 1x speed. I can't get any good tests besides a video as I truly am dirt...

    Worklog N64 Overclock Fixes

So the assortment of clocks I ordered arrived today. I could push X1 up to 25.0mHz but no higher as the console wouldn't boot. X2 wouldn't boot at 20.0mHz and that was the next up from 17.7mHz that I had. So now within the realm of a 1.5x speed I checked the timing for comparison and found it...

    Worklog N64 Overclock Fixes

So I recently wondered if the video would work were the chip set to the correct clockrate. Finding myself short on the necessary bits to do this correctly I opted to simply jumper from one N64 to the other. Suffice to say that it didn't work. Could have been my Michael Mouse setup, difficult...

    Worklog N64 Overclock Fixes

Ok, so I setup some headers on the clocks and had the time to grab a 20.0mHz clock and test it out. This naturally garbled the output video but to my surprise this was fixed by the UltraHDMI! This meant that I was able to do a couple of tests by increasing the clocks in tandem: X1: 20.0 X2...

Unsurprisingly the "improved" ram didn't give different results. I think I was hoping that the VI would read from the framebuffer better given reduced latencies and improved tolerances, but it'd appear that the solution to the issue doesn't lie in that part of the system.

Hello all. I'm back on the warpath again thanks to a discussion with a friend, Hypatia. Generally this would have been an Assembler post for me, but they don't exist anymore, and BitBuilt seems to have a good collection of people who have the very special knowledge required to work through...

If you're using the Arduino mini (or similar) for control input I really should bug you about that code to get a leg-up on the Pi I'm working on!

Actually I'd be interested to see what your trigger button design is - I'm currently remodelling that part of my PS2 portable to change the hold position and thus make the balance more comfortable so am always keen to see other ideas :)

    Worklog PS2RP

Dude, I totally get that - this was a royal nightmare for me to get going. And that's about the thick of it really. I got it going, completed the competition, and then threw it all in a box because is simply was that frustrating and difficult. It might almost be worth your time trying to...
