My Emulation Boy Raspberry Pi 3 portable project

That is some crazy sharp work and such a fine build! I love how you've made such effective use of space and home-made components - that could be a guide unto itself ;)

Worklog Slow Progress on my First N64 Portable

The N64 is crazy finicky about the lengths for the RDram, and despite heaps of messing about in that department myself I cannot really offer any golden advice here. If it works then you've managed something that few of us can get right! And if it doesn't then it's simply the wrong length :(

    Worklog PPR

So I've been on holiday travelling around France for the last month or so, and lemmie say that coming back to a worklog this awesome really makes up for all the terrible weather I've had to suffer through. Add to that I've been thinking about the feasibility of doing just this exact thing. I'm...

    Worklog PiiStationU Portable

I figured it had to be doing something funny like that, and it turns out it's REALLY funny. This'll be my last post in a while as I'll be travelling around Europe so won't be near the workbench, but here's what I've observed: -Charging PCB has three terminals (front, middle, end) -Disconnecting...

    Worklog Booshman's N64 portable

As a thought for making your life easier, and a question to everyone: Do the N64 controllers have a shared VDD and GND? If that's the case you'll only need 5 pins to connect all three controllers, plus a few others for charging your unit.

    Worklog PiiStationU Portable

Right - heading off to Europe in about six hours but that doesn't mean the modding should stop! I've been working on the battery pack, which is using 4x18650 batteries. I wanted to make a more complete solution here so purchased some battery charging circuits. They seem to run fine off of the...

Small update and the inclusion of the worlds most awesome low-battery indicator light. HELLO DAVE Yeah, it's only a few zeners and a LED that I ground the end off of to make it fit, but it really is ominous. Seriously though - fixing this 3D printer has chewed up a lot of my time but I'm...

    Worklog Booshman's N64 portable

I'm no expert in this so I'd ask anyone to please correct me if I've said something wrong - I've no tertiary training in electronics. Also forgive me if it sounds like I'm talking down to you I just don't want to give mis-guiding advice that could screw up a project! OK disclaimer over :) I'd...

That's so sharp we need to find a way to clone it before you bolt it all up! Methinks we've got an award contender here!

Actually if the caps have their values written on the side of them (they usually do) you could replace them pretty cheaply. I've seen this before on a NES that I repaired and it turned out to be a poor connection on one of the solders but it was far from obvious and the NES has a terrible AV...

Would using the Wii U gamepad screen for the raspberry pi be possible?

This link here inspired me to stuff a PS2 inside a Wii U gamepad - the author has a really good breakdown on how he's done it too :) https://sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1607

    Worklog Project: PS2pocket - Brazil

I stuffed the PS2 inside a Wii U case and have opted for making the power setup external because I've run out of room inside the case. I'm planning on using four 18650 batteries at 3400 mAh - mainly because it was cheap. Hopefully over the next few weeks I'll fix the 3D printer I brought and get...

    Worklog Project: PS2pocket - Brazil

I don't have anything to add, but I'm loving your work log so far - it's a delightfully eloquent approach! I'll be watching your power solution with interest as I've still not got mine finalised :D

What about waiting a little and trying to get one of the new controllers from RetroFighters? I was interested but postage was murder so figured I'd try and get them in a batch.

Yes, it's discussed here: https://nfggames.com/forum2/index.php?topic=5803.0 Now in saying all of that, buy and try the stick first as it might have been improved (god knows the code is freely downloadable) or you mightn't find it that bad.

That also (amazingly) has sensitivity issues. It makes goldeneye and perfect dark a little difficult to play, but otherwise is a really good solution. Interestingly enough it seems to make Mario run a little faster...

    Worklog PiiStationU Portable

I brought that fan, and to be honest had no other use for it so started cutting bits off until it fit and hoped it'd work. As fate would have it that appeared to be enough. I've done an hours burn-off and a couple hours worth of play. Blind luck I suppose.

    Worklog Booshman's N64 portable

What is it with me and quotes today? Gawdamnit. Nevermind. The N64 stick uses a funny "gate and step" system for measuring movement (if you open one up you'll see that it's got funny little "flywheel" parts in it - amongst everything else that wears out) that essentially counts how many steps...

    Worklog Booshman's N64 portable

Funny - I can't get quote working today. Nevermind. Usually out of my league I can at least answer your questions pertaining to the joystick. In short: It's not that simple as the N64 uses a different system. The long winded answer is that you'd have to run the standard "pot" stick through a...
