Yes, that should be possible. However i would try to figure out what the actual voltage is that the board requires, since there are almost no electronics that actually run on 12v. There is probably a 7805 regulator inside of the thing which converts the 12v input to 5v. Anyways, of it does need...

If my readings are correct you should be able to connect 3,3v to the pins highlighted red and black to power the board. I wouldn't power it from your ps2 since it (might) require up to 2.5A, but you'd need to measure it. Also, make sure that if you measure the pins that they are a steady 3.3v...

If I was you I would just ditch the shielding overall. It's not like you're going to need it in a portable. Also, did you look into custom regulators for your PS2? And do you have plans to trim it? Custom regs could reduce power consumption by a lot. I'm not sure if the PS2 uses switching or...

What are you using to get 12v to the display? Also, what do you mean with rust? pics please. Your project looks good to me, but if you want to use a clamshell design I wish you a lot of luck with it since its really hard.
