Other user-friendly builds are the G-Boy and G-Wii. There's also @Xenii 's Xii-Boy which is essentially a much more streamlined version of the G-Boy with almost no wires. Really it's up to you what you want to make. The Ashida is the most user-friendly build at the moment though.

Some people still opt to relocate MX for games like Animal Crossing and Pokemon Channel that utilize the RTC. I seem to remember hearing that Aurelio may be adding in proper RTC support without requiring an MX relocation, but that's just pure speculation. Even if it does get added, this is...
I always thought a Wii U DS style portable would be neat! Any word on whether this project will have touch screen support? I seem to remember the Wii U having a touch screen although I'm not sure it goes used outside of UI navigation. Looking forward to seeing where this project goes!
Introduction:
Along the way of making your first Wii portable, you're going to run into some wiring diagrams that ask a lot of someone who's new to soldering. From U10 relocation, to USB wiring, to VGA signals, to even audio wiring, Wii builds are infested with these tiny solder points. This...
These shells all look amazing! Almost makes me wish I picked one up. One of these days I'll need to make one of my own mini Wii consoles. Awesome stuff as always dude!
Glad to hear that worked! That's how it usually goes with fuses. Just be glad it was the fuse that got blown up and not your entire console! I know I was when this happened to my N64. As a result of this, I started checking the resistances between all voltages whenever I do anything to a...
It's soooo cool to see how few wires portables are able to get away with nowadays. I know this is Xenii's design, so he deserves credit for that, but I still love seeing people assemble these kinds of builds. Love seeing the laminated display in use too!
Soldering those ribbon connectors can...
It sounds like you may have soldered the solder braid to what you were trying to wick up. You need to heat when this happens so you don't rip the pads up. You probably also used too much solder if you bridged the legs. The legs on this component are small enough to where you need almost no...
If you have solder braid, you can easily remove the bridges. Your soldering iron may be good enough if it has a temperature control, if you're not going to be doing much beyond fixing this console, then it might not make sense to pick up a better iron. I don't know for sure that your iron...
I took a quick and dirty look at the layers in GIMP to see what is immediately under that layer and I wasn't able to identify anywhere these pads would connect. Between that and the fact that they aren't clearly connected to any traces or vias on the board, it appears as though they are unused...
I'm pretty sure those are the exact same ones I used in mine, so I think it should be fine. Worst case the speakers might make the controller boards stick up a tiny bit, shouldn't be enough to matter though. At that point you could probably modify the shell a bit to accommodate it.
Starting with the Switch joysticks, you should be able to just snag whatever Switch joysticks are available on amazon, ebay, or probably aliexpress will work fine too. Really any replacement Switch joystick should work in theory. As for the speakers, they appear to be in stock on DigiKey...
I missed this when you initially posted it. This is so cool! What percentage of accuracy would you say this tool has for guessing motherboard revisions and more importantly, layer count? Just curious.
Also, thanks for open sourcing! As a data horder, I love keeping stuff like this preserved!
I'm a bit late to posting this, but a few months ago I made a Monogatari theme Wii portable based off GingerOfOz's "Louii Twoii" design. I never made a proper cutting edge post for it since I was distracted by MGC and got sick afterwards, so I figured I'd make one now! This portable features...
It sounds to me like you probably blew this fuse when the console was shorted. I don't know much about the PS2, but I'd put money on it being that blown fuse since this is what fuses or breakers are typically used for. You should probably replace that fuse though instead of just bypassing it...
Can't wait to see what you come up with for these builds! Wii portables are great projects for de-rusting your skill set like you said, so I'm also looking forward to seeing what you do after this too!
By the way, if you want some FDM printed shells for these, I offer a 3d printing service for...
I wasn't aware that Chipquik made another kind of flux. What's the difference between SMD491 and SMD291? I'm genuinely curious since I've grown addicted to their SMD291... (in a healthy way I promise!)
You may also need to twist the SCW and SDW wires with ground to shield them. I can't promise that will fix the issue, but since the Ashida is a noisy build it might help. As for the issues you're still sometimes having with RVLoader and games crashing, have you tried reformatting the micro SD...
