    Worklog Project M

So I guess we're all redesigning motherboards now lol. With the current 3 or so worklogs of reverse engineering of the Wii/PS2 motherboards, I felt inspired. After completing a few portables of my own now, I wanted a challenge for myself to push my growth as a hobbyist. I'm an Eagle user with...

Worklog Portable Xbox 360 (slim corona)

I'm not sure if this circuit will do the trick for battery monitoring but thought maybe you would want to check it out. It's code is designed for a single cell battery (3.7v) using 1 single RGB LED but the code can probably be modified to set the values for what you need. Maybe this will work...

I think this is the first time in history somebody has been able to power the 360 completely off batteries O.o

Worklog [2022 Contest Entry] First Portable: The PS2

I would check for shorts on all the voltage lines with a multimeter. I see a lot of areas that are concerning where you have exposed wire that shouldn't be exposed such as the 1.8v exposed wire literally above the ground pad on the bottom of the motherboard. You only need the thick wire for the...

Holy sh*t. My mind is blown.

shoooooot this is going to be good! I'm curious to see what you do with the GBS8200 circuitry.

Oh buddy, can see I won't last long here.

You'll be fine as long as you read and respect the community guidelines. As long as you do, I would say this is a welcoming community where we all share the interest of creating and engineering.

Worklog An attempt to recreate the PS2 PCB

It will not make sense to order any chips separately and you will still need other chips off the motherboard of the original ps2 that are not sold separately anywhere anyway.

Personally, I don’t know what kind of solder paste you have but I would think medium temp solder paste would work best (for the BGA chips) which has a melting point of around 180°C. Low melt solder paste has a melting point around 138°C and is generally a softer metal that is more brittle, from...

Worklog An attempt to recreate the PS2 PCB

Yeah the tools can get pretty expensive if you buy top notch brands. Like at my job, my desk has about $3000 worth of micro soldering equipment but you can get away with a cheap hot air station and soldering iron for this project honestly. It will be easier with a microscope, but you won't...

Worklog Portable Xbox 360 (slim corona)

I've never owned or played Xbox, but reading this thread is just fascinating. The level of engineering it's taking to figure all of this out is just incredible. Will definitely be following this thread.

I agree with you. It's not the same having it done for you. I find soldering BGA packages easier than QFN. With flux, when you place the BGA chip in position and heat it up, it just snaps into place due to surface tension. I think you'll enjoy it.

huh, you had switch sticks working just fine? That’s interesting, another member on these forums somewhere said they only worked with 10K joysticks if I’m not mistaken. Would be awesome if they do work just plug and play. Thanks for the feedback, looking forward to more progress!

Nice work! I see you will be using the mini PS2 controller boards from China. If I’m not mistaken, they do not work with switch sticks natively and would require a micro controller. I have a few of those mini PS2 controller boards and have yet to test myself but I read somewhere that they...
