Discussion G-Boy Rev III - DIY Portable Kit

Nope, you should get a 4 layer board for this build, no questions. The G-Boy only has two cells and the 6 layer draws a considerable more amount of power than a 4 layer.

    Worklog The Wii SPii

I painted the back half of the case this weekend. I used pure metallic red from Tamiya from Amazon for the finish with a semi-gloss clear to make sure that it’s not too shiny. Didn’t get a chance to do the top half of the clam or front base half since I’m moving out Wednesday. Soon! Before the...

This looks fantastic. Awesome work Bill.

Why give up? Clamshells are naturally going to be thick since everything has to be stacked on top of each other, there’s no avoiding that. You could always use lithium polymer batteries and heatpipes to make the base a lot thinner. If you’re going to use lithium ion batteries, sticking them out...

Looks good! How are you planning on keeping the hinge mounts fixed to the base? Looks like they are floating there at the moment.

Question Tips for adding common parts to case design

Seems like you’ve got the right idea. Obviously the best solution is to try and see if you can find a model of the part you want to use. Rather than extruding the case with the model itself, I like to draw a sketch on the face and offset the part by about 0.05mm just so that you have a little...

I haven’t really thought of anything yet, but probably just a regular squishy tact with a button next to the right trigger. There isn’t really much room anywhere else in the case, it’s pretty tight!

    Worklog The Wii SPii

I spent most of these past two weekends ( thanks to robertlong13 for answering my questions around ADCs, how they work in microcontrollers, and many more tips for getting starting with PIC programming) modifying the UAMP source code to allow the thumbwheel potentiometer to set an ADC value to...

    Worklog The Wii SPii

Enter the Wii SPii, my 2020 summer contest entry: The portable will be modeled after an original SP console and feature a full OMEGA trim with NAND relocation and AVE relocation performed by me, as well as an all-in one PCB showing off all of the latest boards designed by the awesome members of...

Worklog WiiSPii 1.0 (Wii in an SP Shell)

This weekend I spent some time working on the main 4 layer PCB which houses nearly everything required for the Wii to function. The PCB has the U-Amp and RVL-PMS by Gman (with modifications made to the code to allow the volume to controlled with a thumbwheel potentiometer via the onboard ADC...

    The G-Wii rev2

Finished the awesome G-Wii rev2 in metallic platinum silver. The original plan was to make something as authentic as possible keeping it close to the color scheme of the platinum GameCube wavebird controller. I think it turned out wonderful! Thanks to Gman for open sourcing everything, the...

Worklog WiiSPii 1.0 (Wii in an SP Shell)

I must admit it’s not the most comfortable to hold like a G-Wii, but I don’t have to wrap my fingers around it that much. Your index fingers fall nicely into place on the shoulder buttons on the back and the grips make it more comfortable. Probably I can see your hand cramping reaching for the...

Worklog WiiSPii 1.0 (Wii in an SP Shell)

I did some test prints this weekend. Some tweaking will be required to get everything to fit properly (including the screen driver board) but so far the first prints look very promising! After these tweaks I will order the PCB from JLCPCB. Switch/G-Wii for scale:

Not 100% sure yet. I can always adjust the ranges in software using GC+ 2.0 configuration if they are smaller. The conical holes are quite deep and at a sharp angle, so I don’t think there will be any issues ergonomically but I’ll see after I do a test print this weekend.
