Worklog PS2p: 3 years Hiatus... Comeback!

Hard to say, could be a range of things. Have you double check the connections and tested the screen to see how much current it needs? What I can do on my side is wire mine tomorrow on the Dalian screen and see if it works. If it does then it would mean that either the screen or the way it is...

Worklog PS2p: 3 years Hiatus... Comeback!

Good timing, I receive my batch of LM1881N yesterday and was going to try to wire one tomorrow. Do you have both capacitor? First one on the Composite input and the other one on the RSET along with the 680k resitor. Also don't worry about the the capacitor on the RGB line as they should already...

    Worklog PIS2, a long overdue ps2 portable

Thanks for the pic @cfc_12, might be playing with this later on. Those point are pretty tiny and in order to achieve this I would need to gear up. Will probably need a good magnifier with led (lost mine after moving out a few years back), a really fine soldering tip and some flux. For the...

I see, was hopping that could have been due to the splitter. I guess we just need to live with this ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@Dave Mackintosh that's impressive, definitely not for the faint-hearted. Remind of my modchip wiring time. @Gman definitely need more PS2P, looking forward to that guide. Also wondering if you still have the lost of signal between screens when you wire to the lines directly?

Nice, that would be great to skip the splitter. Do you guys have any pics showing which points we can use to get those H and V lines directly? :)

    Worklog PIS2, a long overdue ps2 portable

My understanding is that the PS2 doesn’t output H sync and V sync natively. VGA is basically made of 5 signal Red, Green, Blue, Horizontal sync, Vertical sync (RGBHV). The PS2 output natively 15Khz RGB but not RGBHV sadly. To solve this we can get the H sync and V sync which are present in the...

I'm using this 5.6" screen which was the one Ashen used from memory and this 5" screen should also work. That second one was the screen use on Gman's GS2 if I'm not mistaken.

    Worklog PIS2, a long overdue ps2 portable

I'm currently using the Y line. I try both configuration with composite and S-video Y they both work on my side. The lost of signal seem to be something that just happen with this configuration. It's like the screen turns off and go back on again between FMV, menus and gameplay. Edit: But in...

Whoops, looks like I copied the wrong share link, I could see them on my side because I was logged in. They should be visible now. Edit: and by playing with the sharing settings I mess up the links of the previous images:facepalm: Just finish re-linking all of them.

So after a few message exchange with @cfc_12 about the PS2 video output I wanted to have another go at setting up VGA. When I played with that 4 years ago I already had a trimmed PS2 and had a few things setup on it and for some reason it just didn’t want to work. I went back to my 5.6” Dalian...

Looks great, that's what a call a close shave! Can't wait to see the end result. To answer your PM no you don't need a crossover cable, the PI takes care of this for you. I'm actually in the process of compiling the notes I took when setting the PI to turn them into a guide. Will be releasing...

Also, just sharing some info about the controller board I’m using. It’s from a third party controller called “Genius maxfire blaze”. I got it a while back and was pleasantly surprise to see the board was quite small. The gamepad look like this And it’s made of 2 boards, the big one is only...

    Worklog PIS2, a long overdue ps2 portable

Finally manage to get some solid time over the weekend to work on my portable. So let’s get straight to the update. Screen board To slim down the board I had to relocate a capacitor, remove all those gpio pins and solder the little board directly on top of the main board. Did some fitting in...

Yes, luckily I trimmed it back then so didn't have to do that this time around. I have 2 other of those in a box somewhere, not looking forward to trim them any time soon.

Thanks guys, @MasterNate it's a IBM Lenovo 05K5494 Laptop Fans + heatsink. Basically a replacement fan/heatsink for a Lenovo laptop. It used to be used by a few guys on the old Bac forum and is quite slim, around 6mm tall when trimmed and pretty quiet.

    Worklog PIS2, a long overdue ps2 portable

So after a short break of… around 4 years I finally got the time/ motivation to finish my PS2 portable. I couldn’t stand seeing this half finish case staring back at me, like a ghost of the modding past (see what I did there), begging to be completed. For reference this is the link to old post...
