Discussion N64 Controller CNT-NUS required components

So it seems like most capacitors are there for decoupling, and not necessary for the controller to work. Thing is, even though the chip can be used without these capacitors... should it be?

Discussion N64 Controller CNT-NUS required components

I've been working on designing my own PCB for an N64 controller for a little bit now, similar idea to the famous RDC chip that Downing uses in his portables. I know there is an N64+ controller chip coming soon thanks to the great work of some of the folks on these forums, but I'm using this as...

Awesome thanks for the advice. I've never ordered a PCB before so I guess I'll go JLC. I'm using the OSH design rules in EAGLE as a baseline, I figure if it passed their rules JLC should be fine eh? Not sure how deep into the custom PCB world I'm going to go, but for now I have 2 boards made...

Yup, it's all I can do for now. Still quite new to PCB design but I took a few electrical eng classes back in the day so my fundamentals and theory are there. Still not sure if I'll get boards from OSHPark or JLCPCB. OSHPark seems more expensive.

Hey everyone keeping up with this thread, so Coronavirus has hit, gonna be working from home until the 3rd of April so I guess I'm gonna have more time to tinker around with my portable. My screen and some other parts should be arriving soon, but in the mean time I've been teaching myself to...

Thanks for the advice, I need to order stuff from digikey so I think I'll go the safe route and use the pth08080. Im going to run some tests on this little 3.3V converter board I got, but not gonna plug it into the n64. So it's been slow lately, but I connected the 3.3v traces on the back of...

Yeah I'm not sure either, it would be nice to be able to just connect everything via the top of the board but I haven't seen much of that. EDIT: On a side note, my local electronics store carries these DC-DC step down regulator boards which convert to 3.3V...

ah okay, cool. I'll look into maybe getting a board such as those, seems like a solid solution. Also @Booshman I had a question, for your trim did you reconnect the 3.3v traces on the bottom of the board? I think I'm going to work on some more wiring today but I want to be sure I have my stuff...

Ah okay, I haven't seen that board yet. Any reason you extended the caps off the board?

Got a spare Arduino lying around. I've seen the JacksonS board but I'm on the fence about going for it.

What do you mean by put back on the capacitor? Is it C15 which I had to take off for the trim? And as for audio boards, I came across something interesting...

Resistor on PIF done: Now I need to figure out the rest of the wiring. I'm only just realizing I'll need a way to provide my board 3.3V since the red board I ordered for the batteries will be delivering 7.4V. Is the guide at...

cool thanks. Looks like the 2k resistor over there is a 1/2 watt, I only have 1/4 handy, think it will work just as well?

Alright, so today I performed my trim. It went pretty smoothly but my dremel slipped ever so slightly on one cut (see bottom left of the board) and I exposed some copper on the board, luckily it didn't hit any traces (although it came pretty close) and it shouldn't cause any problems from what...

Ended up ordering the red board from AliExpress and the seller had a few other items I tossed in to save on shipping. It's epacket which usually takes around 15-25 days but every time I've ordered it, I usually only wait 2 weeks so I'm hoping to get stuff mid month. I found these 18650 battery...

I have copper braid and a small hand suction pump for desoldering, works pretty well. I was also just experimenting and I can get the cartridge slot done with just 1 50 pin IDE cable and straight pins instead of 90 degree ones. The cartridge slot pins fit into the IDE connector with minimal...

Hmm alright I'll look into getting a different screen. Its tough to know at first glance online what screen would be best. As for the pins I plan on bridging them with solder. The ribbon cable is kind of bulky you're right, if at the end of the day I need to save on some space, Ill most likely...
