    Question My start to modding.

Hi Lincoln! I wouldn't recommend a portable or anything for a first time project unless you've done a little more research, but definitely keep looking at old projects on other forums as well as well as youtube videos of basic modding skills; there's a lot of great stuff out there to help get...

Worklog Chreshal's First Wii Portable Worklog

I've said it before, it's the most hackish/noobish thing I'll admit to doing, but I cut the board around the chip as small as possible, and then sand from the bottom until the piece of board is gone and the chip is the only thing left. Sounds stupid. Works like a charm.

Worklog Chreshal's First Wii Portable Worklog

Refer to my earlier post. We're trying to help you figure it out without just giving you all the answers. I literally found the equation in the datasheet for you, screenshot it, and pasted it into my post. Your desired Vout is 1.15v, plug that into equation, and it will give you the resistor...

    Good Soldering Iron For Cheap?

I use the same one that @Chaos uses, and yeah, at that price point it's pretty good. If you plan on soldering a lot, and doing advanced stuff, maybe it's worth it to invest in something more, but for me it definitely gets the job done.

Capacitors stay the same, the equation from the datasheet gives the following: Where Vout is the voltage you want out of your regulator, and Rset is the resistor.

    Question Uneven charged batteries

That's what I think. And it wouldn't hurt to check the current, at least in the beginning. (Just to clarify, and you probably already know this but on the off chance you don't, when measuring current, disconnect one of the ends of the resistor and put one probe to the disconnected end of the...

    Question Uneven charged batteries

K, here's the long explanation It's a resistor; power is being dissipated across it, it's not acting as a "short" which would be just a wire from one end to the other. Batteries have a max discharge current, which is what I was warning against. The equation I = V/R (where I is current, V is...

    Question Uneven charged batteries

Seems legit to me. Those protection circuits are protecting against over-charging and over-discharging. Obviously you don't have to worry about over-charging. Over-discharging will likely not be an issue either, just make sure whatever load you put on it doesn't pull a crazy amount of current...

    Question First Portable Console

Thanks, I talked with Noah a bit about what to include, and we soooort of decided not to include things that aren't console specific, but I wouldln't mind having a more detailed controller section in there. Let me know if you want to help polish/finish the guide out, I know you have been talking...

    Question First Portable Console

There is one wii guide that I even know of, and that is BitBuilt's. It is really good, as good as it needs to be. There are dozens of n64 guides, some good, some not so good. I don't really agree that it's hard to find guides for anything other than wiis... if you're limiting yourself to just...

    Question First Portable Console

Just thought I'd give you some things to consider, I know it's a lot, my feelings won't be hurt if you don't read it :P Whether an n64 or a wii is easier to portablize is a complicated question, but let me just try to explain some things, and hopefully it'll end up making sense (Note that I...

    Troubleshooting Techniques

Test constantly. Check that everything works between every step that you are able. Relocate something, test. Trim something test. Don't be the guy that does the whole wiring job without a single test, then tries to power it on, and asks the forum why it isn't working.

Worklog Shank's "First" Wii Portable Worklog: PiiWii Pocket

Haha. I didn't even realize that that method makes buttons protrude farther than normal. It hasn't been noticeable for me, at least. Maybe the rings I extracted were already thin to begin with.

Worklog Shank's "First" Wii Portable Worklog: PiiWii Pocket

Unless I'm mistaken, sanding the buttons down/cutting them in half with a dremel only decreases the amount the buttons protrude outside the case, not inward, and you're right about having to maintiain some amount of thickness to keep the ring together, but we're talking like a fraction of a mm...
