Worklog Ashida build. My first portable.

Ok so, it seems like the SDW/SCW crashes are indeed a bug in RVLoader. Aurelio's been working on it, so we just need to be patient and wait for a new release. The other issue I was having was unreliable boots... as in sometimes I would need to turn on and off the console 2 or 3 times before it...

Question Would this trim work without any major relocations?

I'm planing on building another Ashida and I would like to give myself more room inside the console be it to remove batteries or work in the PMS, PD or whatever the case may be. Just wondering if this trim would work without giving myself too many headaches. I'm comfortable with the idea of a...

I'd be down to try it out too if I can be of any help whatsoever.

Interesting... So it was a software issue after all... Kinda puzzled about that. I sorta assumed it was related to wiring since everybody has reported on this issue and it was accepted that changing the routing solved the crash... And in fact I've seen this first hand, although now I'm...

Keep going, it is frustrating but you're getting there... There must be a microscopic short somewhere... Take a break and come back later with a fresh mind. I'm sure you'll manage to sort it out. About the SDW SCW issue, what you should be seeing, which is the same as the rest of us, is...

Hmmm they should be all direct connections though... Also did you check for bridges? The symptoms you describe make me think there's a sketchy connection on the flex. maybe when the board heats up after being on for a while, something bends eeeever so slightly and it's enough to break a...

Hope it is because it's been driving me insane lol. As for your issue, yeah it might be the flex soldering. Try using this diagram and check continuity from the AVE pins to the RVL-DD pins (NOT the flex). Also make sure you didn't accidentally bridged any of the pads on the DD board. I...

Question Is U10 relocation necessary for ashida

Oh... This might explain a thing ot two...

Worklog Ashida build. My first portable.

Seems like I managed to stabilize it again. From the looks of it, the routing seems to be extremely important. I've been playing around with moving the wire pairs around to different locations and NOT soldering anything. My current wiring is not at all that different from the last one I posted...

I moved the pairs from the flex to the DD board directly and now it's fine again lol. 30 minutes on the status screen and counting. I'll leave it alone for now... When I got some more time (probably on the weekend) I'll try moving some ground cables around trying to see if I can solve the "reset...

I feel like I'm gonna lose it. My console now refuses to go back to it's "no more crashes" state. The ONLY yhing I did was move around the GND wires for the SDW and SCW pairs and now even where they were before, my console went back to crashing. This is so damn frustrating...

    Discussion RVL-DD Success/Struggle Stories - SDW/SDC and Controller issues

I updated my post. After running some tests, I can confidently say that twisting SDW and SCW with ground solves the crashes.

Ok, let's run an experiment. After confirming that my Ashida doesn't crash RVLoader anymore, let's break it again! I'll remove the ground connections from the SDW and SCW pairs. Two things I expect to see: 1- Crashes return. 2- The console boots 100% of the time meaning I did cause a ground...

Worklog Ashida build. My first portable.

UPDATE: Ok so in terms of stability, my Ashida has been rock solid since the addition of the twisted pairs. The new (less) annoying issue it developed is that sometimes it now takes a few tries for the console to boot (as in sometimes the screen wont turn on before I turn it off and on again 2...

Ok, because it's never over, there's one more thing. I noticed that the "gc pad resets and the stick craps out" glitch came back... So I decided to say screw it and threw in yet another ground pair... GDC+Ground. There's a ground via right next to the GCD vias close to RA1. I'm now testing if...

Worklog Ashida build. My first portable.

Ok so I'm now very confident that my Ashida is orders of magnitude much more stable than ever before. I haven't seen a single RVLoader crash all day. This is what my final wiring looks like: The top lines are the audio lines, and the ones at the bottom are the SDW and SCW pairs, along with CK...

Worklog Ashida build. My first portable.

It might be a combination of all factors, honestly. Hell, even ground loops might be playing its part here... I remember at one point I can't remember what ground cable I added from the wii board to the controllers PCBs and this caused the console to crash out (even glitching the screen) when I...

Alright, I think I nailed it. I swapped the SDW and SCW cables with twisted 34 awg pairs to ground and the console just works pretty much flawlessly. It's been sitting in my desk charging and on the status screen for a solid 20 minutes now without crashing. Of course it needs more testing but...
