Worklog Retro Lite CM4 - A StonedEdge and Dmcke5 collaboration

On my previous project (which was windows based) I used the right joystick as the mouse. It works quite well, I think I actually prefer it over a track pad for most tasks. I had top and bottom right shoulder buttons for left and right click and when top left shoulder is held down the joystick...

Oh so you're talking about on the actual unit itself? Yes this is one thing I want to at least try out on this device, it should handle a full linux desktop environment just fine. The big issue is going to be actually interfacing with the thing, I can make one of the joysticks function as a...

Not exactly sure what you mean by "general purpose computing" but it certainly isn't hard to hook the internal controller boards up as a standalone controller if that's what you are after. I also wouldn't count on this becoming available to purchase either, we haven't really given that aspect of...

Thanks for the kind words mate. @StonedEdge and I have spoken about building these for people but the design would have to be changed a bit to ensure it doesn't bother Nintendo. I'd stick to the same size/form factor but would probably make a few distinctive changes to ensure it doesn't look too...

    PS4 Portable?

That means you'd need a minimum of 10aH 3 cell lithium battery just to run it for an hour. That means 9 18650 cells at a minimum which is probably about half a kilo of battery alone. Honestly, I think you'd be better off considering a less power-hungry console.

    PS4 Portable?

I don't own a PS4 so I'm only guessing, but I think providing enough power in something remotely portable will be the biggest challenge. Cooling will be a big challenge too.

Have you seen how much this thing looks like a switch? I'm sure Nintendo would be happy with us lol Having said that, it wouldn't be hard to redesign it around the same internals to look different enough that we could get away with it. Trouble is, I doubt you'd get many sales. The BOM is...

Made some progress on getting an OSD up and running last night. There's quite a few osd's out there already but I was having a huge amount of trouble getting most of them to work. All of the ones I really want to use rely on a free icon pack provided by Google, but they recently changed the...

The GC+ is a great bit of hardware, but using it through an adapter is definitely a bit of a backwards way to do it for something like this. I'm happy to share my code, you don't even need a custom PCB as you can buy an arduino board off the shelf that will do exactly what you need. Here's the...

The reason I'm actually working on the code again is because someone asked me for a copy of it. You're welcome to a copy of it too once I finish making my refinements! It's mostly commented too so hopefully nice and easy to understand. I'll PM you a link for it once I've finished it off. I made...

    Worklog Clone hero controller

Just need to make a rebate in the neck for the button PCB and run some wires and I'll be able to hook it up and start testing! Strum bar feels good. Click is a little soft though so I think it would benefit from some firmer mechanical switches. I've got Cherry MX Blue's in it at the moment I...

Made a nice little discovery in my controller code yesterday. Turns out the arduino joystick library is actually pretty slow at making changes to the state of the buttons, so I added an array of current button states to store the last sent button state so I can update the buttons only when they...

The plan is that the USB-C will be a usb host capable port so that a USB drive can be connected for transferring roms or an external controller for docked mode. Connection to the internal storage wouldn't make much sense for most people, as the raspberry pie file system isn't a windows/mac...

    Worklog Clone hero controller

Now I've made the neck I can safely say without a doubt that it's too small. I'm going back to redesign it to be "bigger" whilst keeping the length the same. Damn it looks cool so far though!

A Ah, my mistake! I think my mate may have said something along those lines too, but maybe that he preferred the Xbox 360 ones for easy of use. Either way, hopefully I can achieve something nice and responsive like the Wii+Raphnet combination!

    Worklog Clone hero controller

Bit of a weird one and it's obviously not a console, but thought I should start a thread anyway in case anyone is interested or has any input. A mate of mine recently made me aware of the resurgence of guitar hero style games in the form of clone hero. Apparently guitar controllers are...

Had a small issue with the 5 pin FFC connector having top contacts instead of bottom contacts which I've substituted for some I had spare from my last project. I also didn't realise I needed to break out the reset pin to be able to flash a bootloader, but I was able to work around that issue by...

Thought I should post a little update. The designs for my controller PCB's are done and I should have my first batch of boards in the post this afternoon! I'm hoping I'll have time to populate the board tonight but we'll see how it goes. Next step is to get an outline for the main PCB sorted so...

No worries. About to do a bit more machining on a certain acrylic case, but once I'm done I'll get a couple of screen captures of my lower triggers and show you what I'm thinking!
