You can solder directly to the vias before the component, but if you plan to have an external USB it is not safe because there are no protections in case there is something wrong connected to the usb data line.

Can you post a link to those batteries? The nominal tension of li-ion battery is 3.6-3.7V because it is a middle ground for calculating the capacity, but it goes from 4.2/4.2v to 3.2v usually.
