Does the GC controller use ground as the common for the buttons? Can I trim it down to just the chip? Or should I trim it to Ashens original trim shape?

Yeah, you're gonna need to check voltage at the battery, at the switch, and at the console. Check with another screen to confirm that it's not a video issue. If it gets dire maybe grab another console and wire the power up in parallel and see if that one boots. Then you'd know there is a problem...

I believe I've figured a way to fit it in without relocating it. It will be tough but that would be the case either way :P

The batteries actually sit on either side of the heat sink, so it won't be an issue. There's about 3/8" clearance between the heat sinks and the batteries, so no issues with heat on the main chips.

I need my batteries to sit directly against the pcb in that spot or the thickness will become a major issue :(

Alright I'll squeeze it in somewhere lol. It might need a little bit of a heat sink too but at only half an amp I'm not sure.
