SUPP board is built. Gonna plug it in and hope $100 doesn't go up in flames. It should be perfectly possible considering the first SGI Indy GIO Ultra board used a uPD branded chip.

I blame SS... never should've looked at trimming guides. I un-shorted the PIF controller drive lines and pulled up accordingly. Now everything works and doesn't hang up SI. At this point it looks like I've made the first 100% working N64 replica. Now I can start chopping off capacitors and...

Soldered on the chipset. Found a couple problems (I forgot to route VCLK, and POWERGOOD was going high too early). I spent many hours yesterday debugging, the good news is that LOTS of parts of the system are working. But mysteriously, there is some fault that causes most things to crash...

Pretty stoked, the LCD started working right off, barely took any effort at all (I have been preparing though). Driving full digital works! LED backlight driver gets the warmest. 7805 also is warm, but that's fine as it is just standing in for emulating battery voltage.

Inductor for the main 3.3 supply is missing, for some reason I spec'd an 0805 cap on there, brainfart. I also mistyped 73k feedback resistor on one of the supplies to 7.3k, after fixing that the LCD backlight comes on!

    Discussion UltraVGA - Interest Check

Got the terminations wrong, I am greenwiring them on these 2 boards but fixing on the final. I think I will leave in the 720p option for people running widescreen panels. Going to remove the scanlines and stuff that doesn't apply when using small panels (I tried, it doesn't look good) Also...

On that driver board, pin 1 will be on the left side. There should be a tiny circle on the FFC connector. On the display FFC there will also be a small arrow on the left side. That means they plug in flat (display facing up)

SUPP verification board This board has all the other random circuits I need to test out before committing to the final PCB. It's not complete, but so far there is: 1. PCM5100 i2s DAC 2. Class AB headphone amp 3. Class D 2Wx2 speaker amp with auto gain control and volume leveling 4. Li-po fast...

Off to the fab. LCD power was really annoying, 5 voltages required and 4 power supplies.

Rambus Channel routing I don't think anybody who's tried this has before has ever got it working, and this is probably one reason why. Rambus is very picky and needs controlled impedance traces, with careful attention towards return paths. Interestingly, Nintendo seems to have overdone the...
