Review BitBuilt's Reprogrammable GameBoy Development Cartridge

How many times can the flash be written to before the flash is no longer viable? Most modern flash chips can easily do >100k per sector (I'm pretty familiar with the M25PXX series, which do just that), so it's probably not an issue, just a curiosity.

    Worklog PPR

@JacksonS It sounds a bit odd, but make a processor. Simpler ones are...pretty simple, and they're a good mixture of combinational and sequential logic devices. Also make a few protocol drivers and try to communicate with things (also not too bad because there're lots of resources onlien for this).

    Hardest part about modding?

Obv gotta just commit for the molds and go straight injection molding, bruh. Because everyone here obviously wants to mass-produce portables. I've never personally made a portable but I'd guess, like Noah, I would think it would be the casework. The electronics portion should be pretty easy...

Question Calling all noobs (noob question thread)

Oya. I forgot to mention about the fact caps are also used to help make a power supply a bit more stiff. It's pretty common to have a bulk capacitance over anything with a high startup current. Similarly a lot of devices that require a sudden large current often integrate some sort of capacitive...

Question Calling all noobs (noob question thread)

No one that I know of has been designing that sort of circuit. It isn't too difficult, though using that configuration requires a transformer with custom windings, generally. There're other chips that'd work a bit better, tbh. I was going to design a circuit for 5, 3v3, and 1v2 at work before...

No one believes I'm Native American. I wouldn't believe it either if I saw me, though.

    Origin Stories

I was like 12 and doing an assignment on Greek Mythology and thought the name sounded cool. It stuck as a username. Herma is considerably better than the full Hermaphroditus, so I prefer using that in places where I'm known as Herma. I also go by athf226, which was my first online name when I...

    Help with PAM8803 Audio amp

SDN is high power, low shutdown, nothing listed for left floating, so yeah, put SDN to high to power it.

    Discussion N64 Clones

Even if it's not feasible I'd like to take a stab at it some time, if anything just for trying to make a vector graphics processor. I've made plenty of processors already, but never had any floating point operations inherently built into the device. I think the RCP is a RISC-based style with...

I was actually going to do pretty much the exact same thing but never did because I'm a lazy fuck. Looking forward to seeing this.

    Discussion n64 custom motherboard

If you're going to layout the N64 on a new PCB you should keep in mind the signal paths. If I recall correctly, there are LVDS signals, so impedance matching is needed. Also it's good to impedance match on parallel out data as well.

    Discussion n64 custom motherboard

I mostly said ASIC because of size limitations of FPGAs more than volume of production (though if this were to happen it'd probably be out of China so they'd mass produce it anyways). Perhaps you could be able to get away with an off the shelf MIPS and a clone of the RCP in an FPGA with some...

    Discussion n64 custom motherboard

I know I'm not rdc, but as an electrical engineer I can confirm that it wold be a significant amount of work. It's entirely possible, but as some people have mentioned, the board design aside, the physical relocation of first party hardware onto a second board would require a bit of skill and...

Worklog PSYu - a PSone portable

This project is pretty awesome! I was looking to see if you had explained the ユ part of PSユ, you did. I was gonna comment that I saw what you did there. When I was typing ユ at first 湯 came up. Your portable is now the PShotwater. でもかなは簡単すぎるww。 漢字のほうがかなより難しくて、大変だよ。 日本の文法はあまり難しくないんだけど、英語と全く違う。

    Where to buy solder?

Like MiseriesChild, I'm rather fond of leaded solder. Lead free doesn't flow quite as nice. The amounts of lead that get vaporized are pretty minimal, and tbh in terms of breathing stuff in the flux is worse for you than the lead (only because of volume of vapors inhaled, mind you). Plus I doubt...

Question Did I fry my Wii?

Pics are always useful. Chances are it was something simple, like Cheese said, a blown fuse is a likely culprit. I am curious to see your mod. Also, before you go live it's good to do a continuity check on whatever you've done, if anything for a sanity check.

    Where to buy solder?

Innernet. Look at Digi-Key and Mouser, in general two good places to look for anything electronics. Newark and Arrow aren't bad either. For a physical store Radio Shack is basically Tandy (they were owned by Radio Shack), though I read they don't have those in the UK anymore. So Maplin would...
